Four out of my 5 passies are finally setting loads of buds, and some are in bloom. La Lucchese has 5 open blooms and I can tell Lady Margaret is going be a show stopper, lots of buds. When I first received L.M., an 8" vine, she bloomed as if to say hello.
This is LA Lucchese

It wasn't a hot year this summer, not like last year, but my new passifloras did OK, and as of now three of the 5 have bloomed.
Lady Margaret, prolific, small blooms.

Triloba has a prolific purple leafed vine, but no buds or blooms.

So my question for you. I'd like to pot up these ground planted passies and overwinter them. Any tips you can give me to keep them alive?

One of my plants has begun to bloom again. I think this is 'Amethyst'.

Beautiful Joseph ! So rewarding when the vines get thick and strong and bloom.

I didn't cut the vines back in the fall so they came out of the house all bushy, ready for action.

I have two that were pruned back and now only have one branch growing beginning to wonder if they will form more branches or not?

Any Passion Vine experts? I need variety that can climb a 15" wall (with trellis support), a variety that also has smaller leaves: the local florists love it when a friend cuts his vine and sells it for floral arrangements, their only complaint is that they wish it had smaller leaves. He does not know what kind he has.
Am I going to have to choose between selling an unblemished, uneaten vine, or making happy little caterpillars/butterflies? Cuz I choose butterflies...:^)
Also, how bad does the vine die back in the winter? I'm in Zone 10a, Southwest Florida...I still want it to do a good job covering my exterior wall so I don't want it to go away completely...if it does I may want to choose a different vine altogether. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Planty
Love Passie's and grew many varieties last year (in my zone we treat them as annuals). Even with our short season, I don't know of any that grow just 15 inches. More like 20 feet. I guess you could try to control & guide the vines in the direction you wish, then clip the strays. The blooms, which develop on new vine growth will enchant one & all !

Boy, am I DUMB...I meant 15 feet, not inches. What I need is a passion vine variety that has smaller leaves. If the leaves on different varieties are all of similar size it's not a deal breaker, the florists mostly love all the curly-Q clingers and the occasional bloom.

Thanks for your help. One More question, how full/fat are the vines once they've filled out? Are we talking 6 inches from the surface or 3 feet? Not a concern, just wondering...I tried to plant creeping fig against the same wall but it didn't do well. Very flat, and no butterflies...:^(

If you are talking about leafy fullness against your wall - I'd say 6" - 10". Depending on how you train them. I noticed a blossom could hid beneath the canopy and not be seen.

It certainly is lovely!
Might I ask... would you post a pic of the full plant? How you're growing it? Arbor? Trellis? Would love to see the whole "enchilada"! 💙💙💙
I ask, because I just acquired a pretty purple, and i'm looking for ideas! 😊

Hi Tara - two years ago I grew the Passiflora 'Incarnata' on a 6 foot trellis - way inadequate sized trellis.
Last year I created a long trellis out of 6 foot metal cattle fence posts & nylon trellis net (and strung a medium gauge wire across the top from fence post to fence post to prevent net-sag), in my annual garden, much better. Because we freeze deeply in winter my passies are treated as annuals.
Having passi vines growing at eye-level gives you a convenient view of what's going on, buds, blooms, insect activity and more. This system also gives you a view from both sides, so no hidden blooms.

Wow! Kate, you really grow them on a huge scale! What a beautiful setup, and garden! Thumbs up Thanks!

Joseph, I love the fact that it seems you're having great luck with growing them in containers. Beautiful! Thumbs up
I was trying to figure if I could grow this one of mine on this scale, because of limited space.
Green Grin! I'm going to give it a go! Thanks to both of you for the inspiration! Hurray!
