Found some thin brown coated flower wires yesterday, so I wove them through my Passie trellis, so there is more areas for the tendrils to latch on to. Smiling

Jolana - do you keep the Lady Margaret in the ground here or in a pot? Some sites say it is zone 8b, some say 9 so I wasn't sure.

And while we're asking questions Big Grin , if I cut off the vine from last year will it recover and grow a new vine? Mine is in a pot, but the trellis system isn't working and LONG roots grew out the hole in the pot last year. I have to do something different because my setup just isn't working well.

Donald, I pruned both my red and dark purple.
My dark purple was very long - and it was sparse looking - no leaves just vine so I'm guessing it won't hurt to trim it down for new growth of leaves.
Both are sending up new growth.

Kim, I have it in a pot and in ground. They bloom sooner if they don't die back to the ground
Donald yes, they definitely come back, most times thicker than ever

@Jolana
Thanks!! Whether it works or not I have to cut it down to nub and start over with it. My system is not working. Right now the wind keeps knocking it over which is keeping me reminded of why I had driven re-bar through the hole and into the ground last year. That kept it from blowing over, but didn't keep the root from going down into the red clay here. Between the root and the re-bar, I thought at one point I might have to break the pot just to get it where I could take it inside. I may use a t-post this year to hold something for it to grow up. I have a t-post puller which helps get those up. They aren't attractive, but....

I ran into similar situations, that is why I started attaching trellis to the rebar and putting the pot in front. The pot was too heavy to move and the trellis was stationary with rebar 👍
Btw, don't cut it to the "nub" if you can help it, although I have with some because of snail damage
