I picked a few more sugar pod peas, added to what I picked a couple days ago that were in the fridge. Blanched 2 minutes, then ice water, dried them, and put in freezer bag in a single layer. Hope they turn out good. Will be able to add to fried rice if nothing else.

Also cut the one pot of lettuce that really did well. I don't think I can chew it yet, so will try wilting it in hot bacon dressing tonight. I think if I cut it small, I will be able to eat it that way.

Was not very smart, having dental work done right in middle of crunchy veggie harvest. Thumbs down

That looks so good! I have some small ones coming on. I did pollenate them this morning, but had to put pollen from the yellow one onto the green one. The yellow one was the only one with male flowers today. Hope it works!

It does work as I have done that myself when I had no male flowers on my green zucchini. But unless I pollinate the green ones, I don't get fruit. The yellow ones seem to take care of themselves.

I had to put another row of Florida weave on my tomato plants that I am supporting that way just now. They are growing like gangbusters.

Really looking forward to all the new to me varieties I am trying out this year. Of course I am looking forward to my old favorites also.

I have always bought seedlings at my local nursery but last year I thought I might try seeds this year. Bought lots of tomato seeds, still have them. Never wanted to start them in the middle of yucky winter. But anyway, the point of seeds is that you can grow tomato varieties one can not get as seedlings.

One place I found last year and bought seeds was Wild Boar Farms out in California. He has his own introductions and sells seeds. Aparantely does local Farmers markets in his area selling the tomatoes. So when I bought seeds I signed up for the e-mail newsletter.

Got a newsletter afew days ago, they are selling plants. The plants must be pre-ordered for 2014, cost more money any one in their right mind wants to pay and the shipping of 3 day air from California to here across the country costs as much as the plants did. And you can only order the combinations as he has listed. But none of that stopped me. I ordered two of the combo packs. Each has 4 plants so I will be getting 8 plants.

Wild Boar Farms
http://www.wildboarfarms.com/w...

I raved about them last year too on one of my tomato threads.

I bought combo mix 3 and 4 so I will be getting-
Pork Chop
Black & Brown Boar
Blue Gold
Solar Flare
Blue Beauty
Sweet Carneros Pink
AAA Sweet Solano
Berkeley Tie Dye

This is a really big thing for me. I grow tried and true hybrids that have been around for ages, not even heirlooms. So to try these exotic varieties will be quite the thing. But I am very taken by his intros. And now I don't need to worry about having to start tomato seed in the dead of winter.

But that's only 8 plants and you plant way more than that so maybe still consider starting seeds in the middle of yucky winter. Remember, when those little green things pop up in dreary winter it is so Hilarious! Hilarious! exciting! Once you try it you will be hooked!

I agree with Arlene, it is so rewarding to grow tomatoes from seed. Well, I find it rewarding to grow all my veggies from seed and many herbs too. Once you try it you will never go back Big Grin

I was just going to buy more tomato plants besides those as I usually do. But of course I still have all my seeds so maybe I would be inspired to start afew, you never know.

I grow veggies from seed that I can start later and then put outside at least during the day. But somethings like tomatoes, peppers and eggplant need to be started so early in order to have transplants ready. So I just buy them.

I dud buy a nice selection of seed from Wild Boar farms last year and mostly those are not the ones I am getting as plants. So there are still lots of ones could be grown from seed.

I already had to get extra creative this year to fit all my tomato plants in that I wanted to plant. I have some of them along in back of the daylily bed that runs along side my driveway.

Here are the Sweet Million plants in back of a row of daylilies.

Speaking of seedlings. The transplanted golden beets and white turnips are doing great.

Picked up a number of plants at a half priced sale, so now have a few honeydew melons and cantalopes plus another green pepper and a second tomato.
