OK, so this is what I am talking about. This yellow seedling has that candelabra branching that the daylily judges seem to love. This one has 48 buds that I counted on one scape, and it may yet produce a few more. It can open multiple blooms at once, and they tend to size down faster. Some of these plants with more open blooms at one time can get pulled over by the weight, especially in hard rain conditions.
And this is Orange Clown. It tends to be more top branched and opens one bloom at a time. Those blooms tend to remain larger longer.
Now, when making crosses, people are telling me to go for the candelabra branching with more buds because those win shows.... but I really like the Orange Clown habit of just one big flower at a time, even with fewer buds. It seems that they both bloom about the same length of time.
Since I really don't have a business where I sell plants, it is just mostly for my own pleasure, but I also don't want criticism for them not being good enough. It's just very confusing! And that is why I have an acre of daylilies!!!
