It has been a snail plague this year. One of the most disgusting creatures nature has ever produced...

Settled for eggshells, crushed a dozen snails I saw.

My ground has had 11 7/8" in past 4 days, too wet to place Sluggo on the ground, even with a lid over it- water is still seeping above ground level. Have decided the trellis I need for the Hyacinth beans will be a swag hook and hemp lines, sigh, attached to the brace above their spot.
My one lone squash in its revamped box, there is the bottom of a solid plastic tub in the bottom of the box, filled with pine sticks and kept soaked for a year, cedar slats to raise the sides and cat feet deterrents on top of the soil.

tomatoes are confusing me, Of the 2 SS100's one plant is typically longer and taller, the 2nd one isn't going to be as tall? Mixed seeds in the packet?

Kat, everything looks so lush in your yard! No wonder the insects love it. 💚

Just an FYI — the guidelines for DE specifically say it is effective for killing insects with exoskeletons. As this and other articles advise: Slugs are not killed by diatomaceous earth, though it may slow them down. It is mainly used to control insects with hard exoskeletons.

https://depts.washington.edu/h....

Also, it loses its effectiveness when dampened; even high humidity affects it. I think you're wasting your money.

I just put Sluggo out around the cucumber seedlings after I planted them today.

Nice!! I have a row of cucumbers done. Half a row Kirby Picklers and half a row Burpless Slicers.

I also got more tomato plants planted today. Then the rain got to much and I came inside.

@_TheZenMaster they don't like crawling across the shells, hoping the fact the eggshells are wet won't matter, I did find eggshells in the bottom of the bed I dug out to add the pine stumps into, so I suspect hard rains simply send them into the ground. I am good with that.

Great weather now for my new transplants.
Broccoli was barely successful. I just cut the heads and can go back for some side shoots later. I probably paid $4 for the four pack and am lucky if there's $4 worth to eat. I guess they entertained me too.
Planted okra seed, about a dozen little clumps of three seeds, only needing less than ten plants but since I saved seed, I have plenty to waste.
Need to thin the beets/ chard. Those seeds are clumped already, aren't they?
Need to plant yellow squash, bought new seed.
Need the fox to understand where it is allowed to dig when exploring for voles. And where not to dig.
Last falls rescued fingerlings aren't showing much. They were tiny anyway. The newly planted spring potatoes look fantastic.
Fall planted onion sets are still green and many are bolting. I may have to use them like gigantic scallions.
Plant it and they will come.

Its good planting weather for the seedlings when the weather is not too hot.

I got my dill seeds sown today. I got cucumbers direct seeded in ground today. I got the last tomato plants planted today. I got more basil seedlings planted out in pots today. I put sluggo out to keep slugs away today. I watered what needed watering today.

I am dragging tired.

Decided to use a mostly bare small garden area for a couple hills of yellow squash. Walked over to a pile of extra dirt we have and made some hills and put 3 seeds each in them. Still need my garden tilled but not sure if I'm gonna get what I want and need this year.

I finally got my ass in gear, took some soiled soil out to the mound (I'm building a mountain of cat litter and soil. Grass likes it well enough.) Planted two peppers and the two biggest tomato seedlings into bins, took the tarp off the front of cold house and the sealing off the hot house door (Brown Cat loves having his own private exit.) cleaned up a bit, sowed a few more lettuce seeds outside. The peas are starting to look pretty good.

Any planting is good. It's supposed to get warm tomorrow, so I'm hoping to get out and do some more. I populated the cat-free enclosure in the warm greenhouse with the biggest tomatoes, some peppers, onions and cilantro. Now, I have to refresh the soil in the cold greenhouse and cat-proof the bins before I can plant the rest of my seedlings. The next generation of peas outside are getting planted even if there's a storm.
Behind every opportunity is a disaster in waiting.

I potted up all my peppers yesterday and today - 90 altogether! Not all for me, I share with my 2 brothers-in-law, the brother of one of my BIL's, and a couple of other peeps. Went through about 2/3 of a 2-cubic-foot bag of potting soil doing that Blinking .

I used DG for PlantFiles and Garden Watchdog for several years before discovering the forums, wondering if that's similar to why you're new & not-new?

Welcome to the discussion here! Tell us what you're growing this year...

They're not difficult ropes. This is a wonderful site for technoklutzes like me. Poke around a bit and you'll see.

So, what are you planting?

I got some tomatoes and peppers into the cold house today - not a minute too soon, as they were outgrowing their seedling pots. It's hard work, preparing the containers, but i held up pretty well, for a change. I think the good weather is making me stronger.
