I don't have oodles of trumpets to show, most got disbudded as soon as they opened and I confirmed their identity. Almost all were dug and moved last year.

This is Sinfonia in the foreground and one of my first seed grown trumpets in the background.

Some unremarkable seedling white trumpets of varying heights and bloom sizes. Seed from Cascade Bulb and Seed. Since my pine tree went down last year these have really taken off. Before, the tree branches hung over this area and they didn't get much light. They are nice garden plants and next to nothing in price (around $1.25 per packet of seeds).

I was hoping this would be Gold Eagle Clone but it is from a seed strain and has green ribs on the reverse. Still, I have a pot or two of small bulblets labeled Gold Eagle so I hope the clone is somewhere about. The clone has brown ribs and is much sturdier than this one. I got the clone from B&D Lilies around 2005, probably the last time they offered it.

This is a cross between two old cultivars. It has quite a unique beauty about it. I maintain a bank of many, many such crosses of older Trumpet/Aurelian cultivars and they all have beautiful color blends which is hard to find today. In pollination, it's my way of introducing some 'old blood' into some of the newer varieties in hopes of capturing some of those beautiful colors and substance.

Serena Green X Blackberry Ice. This one is highly visible from quite a distance; it's the first one you'll see at a first glance kind of thing. Must be the clean white that does that. Medium size, long lasting flower

Serena Green X Carnival Queen. Rather large flower for it's type. Pretty buff/melon. Serena Green was a favorite as a pod parent among hobbyists years ago.

Here are my two "NOT Anaconda clones". One is orangish and smallish and the other is yellow and biggish.

Note the green ribs on the reverse:
Thumb of 2013-08-06/pardalinum/8c3a3a Thumb of 2013-08-06/pardalinum/b9e131

The big yellow one opens to a very flat faced form:

I guess my question is: Does the original Anaconda clone selected from the Copper King strain even still exist?

I've always called this one my NOID aurelian #1. I find photos of it in my archives going back to 2006 and I can't for the life of me figure out where it came from. I don't think it is a named lily. I have had it growing in a garden area that often is under water for brief periods during the winter. It never got more than three buds on a stem, usually just two. Last fall I did a big dig and removed all the lilies growing in that area and this one got moved to the raised bed.

I was surprised to see how well they came back and in spite of the transplanting these three stems returned with up to six buds on a stem. The only problem with it is that it has a combination of short stems (3 feet) and downfacing blooms. I took scales when I dug it and now have several more coming along. In spite of the flaws a group planted close together will look real nice.

Well Connie, there must have been a misunderstanding somewhere along the line with those Anacondas and Moonlights. I've seen pictures now of yours and Tracey's and reviewed what pictures I have--and--we're all different on both. I had bought 5 of each and disbudded all but one each cultivar, so there are 8 more out there--who knows what they might look like? That includes the one spoiled Anaconda bulb which I now have about 150-175 clones of. Now, I wish I would have saved 1 bud per plant just to determine the variation and I could have culled them out this fall. But I trust people. As it is now, though, I'll have move them in groups of 4 and 5 into a mixed flower garden and see what they look like next year. I am not happy at all with this experience. It has left an element of distrust for sure.

I see your experience was even worse than mine: Of three Anaconda bulbs you got, one was spoiled, one with green midribs that looks just like the poor example of African Queen strain that I culled and trashed a few years ago and another one that looks just like a new yellow 'What's it'.

This seems to be happening a lot even with the reputable growers. I may just lay off ordering for a while and concentrate more on growing from seeds especially since I don't have a lot of room anyway. It just seems like we spent a lot of money for a cadillac and got VW bugs instead Sad .

Well Connie, There are good times and bad times with lily growing. We have to concentrate on all the good times and we live with the bad when it happens along the way. Fortunately for us with lilies, 99% are the good times.

As far as any error with the Anaconda/Moonlight experience--I'm virtually certain that occurred upstream.

Those two look just like mine looked the first year. They grow fast the second and third year. Both of these are really strong, hardy cultivars. Ice Caves is another large white that's similar to Ice Follies, except it is a little more open face with a lite lemon yellow throat--although, I have one here with a greenish throat.

The Lily Garden has dropped Sinfonia from their offerings this coming year. Glad I bought a couple of them last year. They have dropped several other cultivars and added a few of Catherine van der Salm's introductions. If you get the Lily Garden catalog be sure to read Judith's "Dear Friends" note jon page 3.

Always read it from cover to cover. But I always wait forever and sometimes it doesn't arrive. It is my favorite catalog, for many reasons. Look forward to the arrival.

Same here, although I would be OK with just the website if it comes to that.. I always like to keep everybody's catalog for reference when I get them. I started a group of 3 Sinfonias early on--always a dependable grower here. Tracey--I guess we'll just have to wait to see what the note on page 3 is about.

Lorn, it is just a note about cutting back somewhat. Not really surprising but I would sure hate to see it all end. But I guess these things are destined to end at some time.
