It seems like we are all always planting some veggies or veggie all summer long. No rest for us guys!

Chelle, I usually plant zinnias as I just love them. Talk about an easy plant that just blooms and blooms. But I didn't get to planting any this year so I am not going to have them. That's okay as I have sunflowers this year and never got around to planting those last year. But I did have zinnias. Now if I could just my act together and get both planted in the same year.

Me, too! The big sunflowers I have now were planted by the birds! Hilarious! The ones I started (late) are still itty-bitty. I just planted more zinnias with the peas today.

I got the parsnips sown this evening, but not the carrots. It was too fine of an evening so we all just goofed off in the yard instead. Thumbs up

Tomorrow is kids day at the fair, so no planting is likely to get done. It'll be fun though, seven is a good age for things like that. Lovey dubby

I usually have bird planted sunflowers but also myself planted Sunflowers. But no matter how organized I am there is something each year that despite my great intentions just doesn't get planted.

I have turnips seeds to plant. I think I had better get moving on that project.

This is the first year I have gone for a second season cucumber crop. Started seeds just recently and today just now I planted them out. I have Orient Express and Suyo Long. So the idea is too have cukes later into the season than when I have to pull out my spring planted ones. We will see how this goes.

Veggies end up in more and more of the flower gardens here. The Orient Express I planted in the third terrace of the terraces garden which is a skinny raised bed in a section of raised beds. I had to dig out afew Tall Bearded Iris that I had relocated to that area after moving them last year because I made their former bed a veggie garden.

And those Suyo Longs went along the back of the second terrace in back of daylilies.

Now I have to go replant those few iris that I dig out.

I think it is time for the bean pods to start. I am really looking forward to these as I have read so much about the fantastic flavor and tenderness of those French Fillet type beans. Then I had to search for what I wanted as most seem to be bush types and I wanted pole type. Plus green was my last choice. So I finially found these. Burgandy and then the yellow on the other tower. I am thinking they will look good as well as taste good!

I went to replant the TB iris out in that iris section in back. I had transplanted there moths ago when I moved iris from one section of that TB garden to the other. I see everything I transplanted died. All transplanted iris rotted. I planted the new ones anyway but think this iris garden just needs to be trashed. The veggie section can just be the entire used to be iris garden instead of the half that I have now.

I have been thinking on it and I need a good place to plant my pepper plants next season. Places I have them now are stuck here and there and hit and miss. Meaning the peppers doing good in some areas but not in others. Some rows of peppers up there would be far more useful that rotting iris plants!

Also I think it would do well for bush beans and of course the root crops like turnips.

Sorry about your iris rotting. I can's find mine for the grass. Hilarious!

You do know the burgundy beans turn green when cooked, right? Sure wish they would stay purple! But they're fun anyway.

If you do decide to plant peppers and maybe beans in the ground it might be a good idea to think about a rotation schedule so you're not planting the same thing in the same place year after year. I'm just saying...I know you are short of space.

No garden work for me today. I helped DH set up market. Best Wednesday market ever! Women fighting over Stump of the World tomatoes. Well, not really but one woman came and raved about them. She bought some on Saturday. She scooped in front of a woman contemplating buying and picked up the four largest ones (they're a big tomato). So the lady contemplating bought whatever was left! Sold all the tomatoes!

Next year I have decided to grow five main variety of tomatoes and alternate a green, yellow and cherry. Stump of the World is on the list! It is a great tomato. A pink heirloom.

Tomorrow I am staying home to catch up on chores here. Ugh, so far behind! Maybe I can get an early start because I sure seem to run out of steam quickly anymore.

Arlene, hurray for a great Market Day. I bet you wish you had had more of those tomatoes to sell.

I do know the purple beans turn green when cooked but I still think it is really neat to start with purple and yellow instead of plain old green.

And I have many other TB iris sections and iris beds. No problems with any of them. Just this one. And I had problems there with the iris not doing great from the get go. I am thinking is it fate and I am just NOT meant to have TB iris there.

The soil is great, daylilies, lilies, other veggies all go fine. Just those darn TB iris. The area used to be a veggie garden but not for years now so no problems with wanting to plant whatever there next spring.

Last year I think I bought 3 pepper plants. The slugs ate them all. This year I have 14. At least the slugs didn't get them. I am getting peppers but could do better. Nope, that's it. I will be pulling any iris left and planting peppers there next year. After that I can worry about a rotation plan.

My tomatoes don't have a rotation plan because I have no place else and need to reuse the same tomato beds year after year.

Yes, trying to catch up here also. Never quite make it. But am working in the upstairs will be turnip bed. Pulled the radishes. Will plant turnips.

I pulled the radishes that I had up there in the should be turnip garden and wish I had energy to plant my turnip seeds today. But out of steam. I pulled weeds earlier in the day over by the rest of the iris and whatever else I did. Getting too old to get as much done as I want each day.

I also have to thin on my rutabagas and kolrabi. Tired. Grump, grump.

Maybe I'll have a few more tomatoes for Saturday's market, but not many more. Wouldn't be surprised if I'm not pulling out tomato plants in a couple of weeks. The stupid dwarfs can be pulled now. Not a bit happy with them.

I hear ya about energy! Green Grin! But it sounds like you did a lot today!

We keep waiting for it to dry up enough to rototill so I can plant more carrots, beets and lettuce. Not happening. More rain last night and today.

Something is chewing my beets too. I just don't know if it's mice, voles or rabbits! I guess I'll be putting floating row covers over them too. I haven't really had many beets except a few baby beets to sell at market. Can't sell half chewed up ones! and I love beets for us too.

Crabby and decided the heck with it. Went out and cut two nice Classic Eggplants. Those are the common eggplant looking ones like you see in the Supermarket. Going to slice them then top each slice with a tomato slice and grill them. Oh getting hungry just thinking about how yummy they will taste. Better go heat up the grill!

I don't feel bad, just tired and crabby. Less crabby now as I am eating my eggplant. Smiling

It turned out so good. Wow yummy, I can't stop eating them. The eggplant skin is a little too chewy but the rest of it melts in your mouth. Really easy to do also. I am wondering if you are supposed to peel the eggplant but then the slices would have just fallen apart. And no bitterness or anything like that from eggplant skin. Just chewy.

Easy to do. Cut eggplant into slices. Brush with olive oil on top. Season with salt and pepper to taste (I leave out all salt but that is just me). Put on hot grill. Leave till tender and turn over. Meanwhile grill some tomatoes slices slightly. Only start those after turning over the eggplant cause they go fast. When the tomato cooks as much as you want it too, put a slice of tomato on top of each eggplant slice and finish grilling. Yummy!
