That one has a flower emerging form between the two "umbels".
Can't say I've ever seen that in any species that forms true umbels.

It is an odd one for sure. I noticed a few others like this. Overall umbel format but some stray blooms that don't seem to fit. Would be interesting to see if one could select these types and breed for a raceme? With L. michiganense it would be a long process!

You might get faster results by introducing some L. canadense into the mix.

I don't have any blooming canadense - trying to raise some from seed. I did buy what was sold as a canadense x michiganense hybrid (red flower) from Plant Delights. Last year was their first year and they only had a single bloom so not sure what form the inflorescence will have at this point, but I could use that as a pollen source...

Hey we've missed you! Welcome back Mr Mom!

Of course we are still addicted to lilies. That is what addiction is all about, something that is hard to go away. We're all looking forward to the upcoming season and another round of oohs and ahhs.

Late summer in Melbourne - top of 17 deg C and a hailstorm (typical of our crazy weather, where you can get multiple seasons in one day...)! Most of the plants were fine (although even my baby bulbs under cover collected a few hailstones), but my Amaryllis blooms took a beating.

Thanks, pard. Keeping inspiration close at hand. It started with the top one and the middle one, then it seemed to all take shape. Let it be the year of the lilium inside and out Smiling

The first one I made 10 years ago, I bet, the white oriental photo. It was a local art store that did it in house. It was not cheap.
My sister had a photo of herself and her daughter made at Costco on canvas and it turned out really beautiful. I checked out the prices and was amazed how the prices have dropped and the quality seems quite nice too.

You know I love to photograph flowers. Once in a while I have one I really treasure, in this case, a small group. Sometimes I make cards out of them too (but some of you already know that Smiling ).

Love it, Tracey. I've thought about doing something similar and that's as far as it gets. The thinking bit!
