Found this exceptional Article at Johnny's Seed explaining all about Cucumber Types and Terminology.

De-Mystifying Cucumber Types and Terminology
http://www.johnnyseeds.com/Ass...

It is the best article on cucumbers that I ever read. Explains about the different classes like the American, English and Asian. Also difference between pickling and slicers. Talks about greenhouse and parthenocarpic and gynoecious cucumbers. And Beit Alpha cucumbers. I have never heard of Beit Alpha cucumbers until now.

It's a big new world out there. Much more to cucumbers than I ever realised.

I am looking at these four varieties there at Johhnys.

Corinto

Tyria

And Amiga, a Beit Alpha.

And Socrates a cold weather greenhouse Beit Alpha.

Hope it's not too late for these little cucumber seedlings that just came up. Double Yield pickler type. Since it is at least 50 days till cukes I have my doubts. But I will be planting them anyway as soon as they get big enough to transplant.

Making a salad to go with dinner. Basically cucumber and tomatoes. I found a small okra pod so cut that into the salad also and it has todays pole beans just cut in raw. I pick them small and tender and often eat them raw.

Ate my first tomato from the tomato plants I got at the plant exchange. All I can say is OH WOW!!!!!!! Funny baseball sized squarish tomato. It ripened to an almost chocolate red color. Cut into it and it was a deep burgundy color and solid meat inside,

Look little zucchini forming on my second set of replacement plants. So these plants are replacements for the replacements of my original spring planted squash plants. I have younger plants than these comming along also.

Sprayed all the zucchini and squash again with the Neem. Old plants have the powdery mildew really, really badly. New plants have some also. I am just trying to keep ahead of it so that the plants do well and produce.

I have a small battery powered sprayer that I use now does really well. Easy to do and spraying goes quickly. It is so nice not to have to deal with the pumping.

Okra pods. Now I know what they mean when they say don't let the pods get larger and be sure to harvest when they are small. I tried to cut into the two larger pods and it was like cutting into wood! The smaller one was good though.

My colorful beans that are not green. Hilarious! Yellow ones, well have a green tint but they get yellower. And purple ones. When they are smaller you can see how they are changing from green to purple.

Oh wow, at least 50 cucumbers there. You sure know how to grow cucumbers. I am in awe of your cucumber harvests.

I was thinking of planting more cucumbers than I have this year for next but ever since I found this thread and see your cucumber harvests that's it. You have definitely inspired me to do more next season. Great job there!!!! I tip my hat to you.
