Yummy on the peppers. Still waiting for mine. Guess I'll have to buy some so I can make some salsa and use up all these tomatoes I have.,

Looking good Jen! I just noticed I have some too, not big enough to pick just yet. Mato's are ripening at about 4 a day right now...that's good, I can keep up with this pace. Rolling on the floor laughing

It's almost apple time folks...things are blooming earlier this year, fruit it ripening sooner, scares me for what the winter may hold. :(

I'm not complaining about the weather but I am complaining cause the kitten just got Busted!!!!! He was rolling tomatoes on the floor so his best doggie friends could have tomatoes for breakfast. Mom to the rescue and tomatoes moved to a new place in the kitchen.

My cucumber harvest this morning.

I had some Straight Eight.
Thumb of 2013-08-14/Newyorkrita/edd724

And some Camilla and Burpless types.

Those tiny cuke seedlings planted out the other day have settled in great and I already see new growth.

And growth spurts on my second planting cukes.

Two melons this morning. The little one is the size I have been harvesting from my melons growing in a pot. The big one is the same variety (Sugar Cube) grown in ground.

Thumb of 2013-08-14/Newyorkrita/625ce2

Going to leave it on the counter for a day or two before I eat it.

I have these two bean towers and I have Burgundy beans and yellow beans. I have been eating them raw each day, just out there snacking. But today I saw I had a lot, I picked.

Bean Towers

My harvest.
Thumb of 2013-08-14/Newyorkrita/d109a9

Burgundy pole french fillet beans.

Yellow ones.

Then what to do with them. So I made a green bean casserole. Ready to go in the oven.

Then finished!

I made it out of Campbells cream of mushroom and golden mushroom soup plus one small sized can of condensed milk. On the directions and pictures of green bean casseroles you can see the beans but mine are swimming in the liquid. But it tastes great. I tried it for 40 minutes, took it out and the beans were raw and hard. Maybe becasue I used raw fresh beans. Back in for another forty minutes. Now they are done. I didn't use onion rings as might be traditional. I didn't want to have onion rings on top, just wanted the green beans.

Lovey dubby 'lovely melons'.

Nice bean towers and those beans look great. Did the burgundy ones stay that color? I forget the name of some ihave had in the past that turned green when cooked.

Got 4 cukes today and some maters. I guess I don't get the maters soon enough, cuz most have been nibbled on.

The Bean Towers are really just extra fancy tall tomato cages that I found in a local nursery this spring. As soon as I saw them I thought they would be perfect for my pole beans.

I think all the purple type beans turn green when cooked. These turned green. But I like the fact that they look so colorful before cooking.

This is the first time I have tried any color other than green beans. But this year got daring, my green beans are purple and yellow. And this is the first time I have tried those French Fillet Types. Really they are tastier than the common green beans.

And I am pleased with the melons. Next year I want to grow lots more types.

Nice cool morning and I'm thinking play in the garden, Was I ever wrong.......Checking the cucumbers and tying up tomatoes listening to the rather unusually loud sound from various birds. Not thinking and going about my business when all of sudden Jeepers Creepers comes to life!!!!!!! Let me tell you that is the closest I ever want to be to a gigantic HAWK. Must have been at least a four foot if not more wing span a foot above my head. I ducked down tripped and fell into the tomato plant cage in fear. The kind where you just lose it. I never scrambled so fast to get inside in my life. One of my flip flops is still in the garden. Got inside and locked the door I was so terrified. The birds are still all screeching at the top of their lungs as if they are warning every critter in the area.

I think I need more coffee and stay indoors til I stop shaking.
