grumble...
I just noticed that my 'Midnight Marvel' Hibiscus has a lot of leaf damage is covered in Sawfly larvae. It's too hot outside to deal with them right now, but it looks like I've got some squishing to do later. They sure do work fast! The plant looked fine a few days ago (although it wasn't given a meticulous inspection.) Grumbling

My Midnight Marvel is still only about a foot tall, and no signs of flower buds. Most of mine got hit hard with that nasty little larvae that just shredded the leaves, but I treated them all and now they have new growth. All of them seem shorter this year and very slow to flower. Not sure if it was the attack of the worm or just the crazy weather that's making them under achievers!

I seriously doubt rain is going to be a problem. All my Hardy type Hibiscus grow in water.

Too much rain makes them flop over or rots the flowers that are open.

Doris said nothing about flopping or rotting. She said they were not blooming which I interpreted as not producing blooms yet. Rain is not going to stop them from producing blooms. This has been the rainiest year in many years and my Hibiscus are blooming better than ever. I have one that is in a rain garden that has produced hundreds of bloom. One branch flopped over into the water and bloomed repeatedly with no problems including rotting.

Well still no buds yet but they are growing taller and stronger than ever, the one growing so good is one of my Red, the other red has not shown any sign of life so I guess she is done, I am disappointed about her as she was a double. my white and Pink still not getting buds yet.

I did notice buds on some of mine, but they seem really small. Now I'm impatiently waiting to see what the blooms are going to look like!

Gee Clint - I was thinking I'm far enough north that I shouldn't worry no buds yet.
But yours are all open and happy.
Hope I see buds SOON!

I think I'm going to have to figure out a spot for Heartthrob! That is a pretty bloom!

Critter,

Mine have buds on them but no blooms yet. My Midnight Marvel looks very healthy, but it's still only about a foot tall. I'm not sure of the reason, but they're all really late this year.

Mine are not blooming yet either, they are late this year, just too much rain, mine is a Large Red, could be the same as yours Clint, it's name is Midnight Marvel, and it has very pretty leaves, when it stops raining I will get a picture.

Teeny tiny buds upon this morning's inspection!
Hurray!

And yes, the foliage on Midnight Marvel would be worth growing even if it didn't bloom!
But the blooms are a knockout so I'm glad it does!
