Seems Hardy Hibiscus aren't wild about Missouri mid-summer heat waves. I didn't get out in the garden until 2:30 pm today. The paler ones, Pink Swirl and Starry Starry Night were okay:

Berry Awesome faded, but didn't look too bad:

The reds didn't fare so well. Midnight Marvel had the least damage, Cranberry Crush a bit more, but my Cherry Brandy FFE was badly sunburnt:

Clint, thank you for all the photos.
My 2 new babies (and all the lilies) are 2" up now. After seeing my reds today, I'm glad I planted both of my newly ordered Hibiscus in partial shade.
I have decided that in order to "complete" my Hardy Hibiscus collection, I "need" Blue River II, Mocha Moon, either Fantasia or Jazzberry Jam, Brandy Punch, and whatever the variety it is that has the absolutely biggest bloom available. Hilarious! Rolling on the floor laughing Drooling

Diana you should look for one called 'Pink Elephant.' Hallson Gardens says the flowers are 12 inches across. Lol.

I don't understand why your red Hibiscus are burning. I have those and they don't do that here. It's been in the 90s here today. Maybe they need more water.

Clint,
It could be the water, after all, the wild ones grow in swampy areas. The other factor may be heavy dew fall on the petals magnified by the sun later in the day. I live on a river, so there's heavy dew or fog every morning.
Pink Elephant is now on my "need" list. Rolling my eyes. Hilarious!

Hibiscus 'Mocha Moon' is a total winner. It has flowers all over, and they really pop against the dark foliage. This is a second year plant for me.

I have some unusual flowers on this plant. They look like Angel Trumpet flowers.

I'm saving seeds from these. I hope I can get one that has these flowers only.

Cherry Brandy, minus the sun damage. The flowers have been goblet-shaped, not flat like my other Hibiscus. I don't know if this is normal for the Cherry Brandy cultivar or not...
I think the sun damage was from heavy dew followed by bright, hot sun on the black buds the day before.

Clint ~ How long does it take for them to get established? My 'Blue River II' finally has buds on it, but I only planted a few months ago. It has only 2 stems.
