I tried cross pollinating some Hardy Hibiscus based on the "oh so scientific" criteria of which ones happened to bloom the same day. I'm counting my seed pods before they mature. Crossing Fingers!

I really like this one. Maybe the local nursery will have it in the Spring!

Congratulations Jackie! You're gonna love it! Did you find it at Lowe's? That's where I got 6 of the 9 that I have, including my most recent - Mocha Moon. Starry Starry Night's foliage is even darker, and the flowers are huge, but I like them both.

I bought a flat of purple mums from Lowes but I went to a nursery a couple towns away that I've been waiting to go to (thinking Fall planting rules and all Hilarious! ) and bought about 8 other perennials.

I just found out that Lowes is supposed to have phased out neonicotinoids and the manager at a Lowes about a 1/2 hour away is very knowledgeable and was quite familiar with which-local-nurseries-use-what, so that's why I grabbed the mums there. I didn't know they had specialty cultivars, though!! I will have to go back and check it out. Thanks, darlin' I tip my hat to you.

DFH is freaked out because of the large number of plants that need to go into the ground. I think I might just surprise him.... Angel

Thanks to everyone for introducing me to Hibiscus -- I didn't know much about it other than some people make tea from it!

I just received an e-mail from Hallson's stating that the hibiscus won't ship until October 9th. They seem to be confused up there in Michigan, and are still blooming away! I usually pot up the new ones and sink them in the ground for the winter, so I guess I'll just wait patiently!

Karen, does that mean you keep them as houseplants during the winter? If that's the case, I might start doing the opposite and get some tropical ones Rolling on the floor laughing

Hi Jackie, For many years I've kept tropical hibiscus in the house during the winter. I had them by glass doors and provided a plant light for them. Now I'm fortunate to have a greenhouse to keep them. I love ordering from Hawall from the Hibiscus Lady. Shipping is expensive, but her Hibiscus plants are so large and so healthy! She has plants I've never found anywhere else.

Those are gorgeous! I might have to go for that David Orr. Her plants arrive in such great shape! It's worth the expensive shipping. Now that they're in the greenhouse they all bloom all year. I just wish I lived where they could be outside year round.
