What have folks been adding to their collections this summer? Are they replacements or totally new to you? Did you go shopping for them in particular, or are they just what you found available out there?

Not many places to buy plants around here, or selection at places that do, but my past couple shopping trips resulted in...
...a purple waffle plant (Hemigraphis) to replace one I accidentally let dry to death a few winters ago.
...a coffee plant, which is probably ridiculous but only a few $'s and something about feeling the leaves made me 'need' to have it.
...another EA 'Gold Crest' Aralia to replace the one of 3 that I kept when separating a trio to make 2 gift planters this spring (Schefflera/Dizygotheca - name as of yesterday.) The other 2 are doing fine at their new homes, hmmmph!
...a Peperomia called 'Jellie' never had before.
...a pretty variegated Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi I've never had before.

I've only added 1 to my houseplants this year. A wonderful little Angel-wing Begonia. A dear friend gave me a rooted cutting from hers. I think I'm 'falling' for Angel-wing Begonias!
I believe it could be B.'Sophia Cecile', though that has not been confirmed... Yet.

I added more to my outer gardens this year than my inner! DH already feels like he's living in a jungle! Rolling my eyes. I didn't want to push it! Hilarious!

Been in search of Oyster Plants and found them yesterday. They are houseplants but I grow them outside. Found an abuliton/Red Lantern a few weeks ago, though my true dream is to find an abuliton/Tiger's Eye. Picked up a Red Button Ginger last week. I think, I hope I am through for the season. But I have yet to visit my favorite nursery. I have to figure out if we are going to have a mild winter or not and decide whether to plant them in the ground this month or pot them up just in case it gets really cold.

I usually get new orchids around Spring during the orchid shows. But for the indoor houseplants this year, we got one cutting from our schefflera, and has been monitoring its growth as we root it in water gel beads and leca rocks. So it is now a happily thriving new plant Smiling

Thumb of 2013-10-03/tarev/fe84ce

My other new plants this year are Hoya multiflora, Phal stuartiana, Paph delenatii, and ZZ plant all being grown indoors. Oh, I also got that same Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi and Kalanchoe marmorata, and other succulents all staying outdoors right now . Still observing how the succulents will react with the colder temps later, if they pout, then they will go indoors in winter.

I just received a Topsy Turvy Echeveria from stush here on ATP! That's my newest plant. More recently I've also gotten Adenia glauca and Haworthia truncata. I grow all my succulents indoors since Iowa doesn't have great weather for most succulents.

I *had* to get a hanging basket of Ceropegia this weekend. It was so full/big & pretty. I can't wait to snip many of those stems and start playing with them, adding some to other pots. Many-a hanging basket around here has some empty space on a side...!

I didn't get anything over the summer! I got a few things in the spring. The last thing I managed to get was a columnea and a streptocarpella-- blueberries and cream. That was exciting because I love streptocarpellas and it's not for sale anymore!

The coffee plant I mentioned above I've been told is not coffee. I think it's an Ardisia.

Yes, that's not a keeper. Wasn't much of a gamble at $4 and I got it because I liked it until I found out what it was, not because it said coffee on the tag. I may accidentally shop today, though I'm trying not to. Depends on how long the line is to renew my license tag.

Forgot to say above, I'd love to see your Columnea if you feel like showing a pic.

Cliff's pics make me want to go back to a kind of far-away store that has some Tillandsias, or at least they did a few months ago.

Tiffany,
Well I got some 'Asclepiads' given to me from members. Huernia zebrina, Huernia 'Yellow Flower', some Euphorbias, a promise on some nice Stapelias. Nice addion to my collection. Also interested in yours when it blooms.
Just purchased a new Sanserieria t. hahnii NoID. from E-Bay that got me excited.

Good-lookin' plants, Stush!

I've added Kalanchoe luciae:

And this funky Rhipsalis:
Thumb of 2013-11-04/purpleinopp/2546ca

Thought I was bringing home a regular wax Begonia from a swap a couple months ago, but turns out, it has double flowers.

Saw a small, inexpensive pot of Scindapsus just before putting this various-vine Philo pot together so threw that in too although I have some recently acquired cuttings in another pot.

Haha Purple! My columnea is a stick with some leaves-- just a cutting! I'm not sure where I put it in the move inside. I bet it's in with the streptocarpella.

Thanks, Tarev! How thirsty is that Rhipsalis?! There was more space under the root ball so I cheated & just added more soil under there until spring, but apparently it's going to be dry as a bone again after being left alone for a few days while I'm away this weekend. I just watered it 2 days ago. Oh well, DH has a short list to check, adding that one.

J - IKR! I lose plants temporarily too. Usually it works in their favor anyway, hovering can be deadly. Good luck with your stick!

I really must stay away from the plant clearance rack. I found the prettiest syngonium-Pink Allusion. Half price at Lowe's and IDK why? A full price plant was inside and there wasn't any difference. Lucky Me! I love Arrowhead Plants and all their variations!

Cheryl,
We have all been there. How about 50 cents, or even a quarter. Wow. I got some really good deals there. And your right about the clearance ones and the full price ones. Some times no difference.

Stush, you're right about the plants found on the clearance racks. I saw a pot of the same syngonium today and I can't believe that I actually walked away and left it. It seems that at Lowes, if a plant doesn't sell in a certain amount of time, they'll mark it down. They're usually fine, unless they've watered them to death. If they get new stock and not a lot of room for both the new and old or if a plant goes out of bloom, it gets marked down. When I see a plant that I like, I usually wait a few weeks for the blooms to fade and get it off the clearance rack. I've been in Lowes when they've gotten 2 orders of the same plants arrive at the same time, have limited space and mark gallon size pots to $1 or $2 just to get rid of them. I've got to stay away from Lowes. Whistling
