I started at the end of October and so far I have won 38. I do not know where I will plant these but they are all beautiful and If I have to I will rip out some stuff I don't need like grass.

I am glad I don't have many coming this year although I did win three more on the LA. I will not enlarge my garden so when something new come in something has to leave. I have plenty that were new to me in the last couple of years, so this year they should show what they can do here in our cold climate. I hope to get some time to move some around to have better color combinations.

I was fortunate to receive seeds from Mike and Sandy this past Fall. I started growing 2-5 of each and every one of the crosses they sent me. And then I, too, found out about the LA and have won a few seed auctions. The patterned and teeth crosses is what I actually bid on and some I won. I have about 200 daylilies growing from seed currently. 60 are already outside in styrofoam cups adjusting to life in the great outdoors. The rest of the seedlings are still sitting on my south facing window sill waiting to be potted up and taken outside as well. And I still have some seeds I haven't started yet because I ran out of room on my window sill.

I can't wait until next year when most of these seedlings will bloom for the first time. I've added two new raised beds to my backyard, so I will be transplanting all of those seedlings by Spring.

I read how some of you use plastic knives as plant markers. I've looked and looked at various stores to locate just a box of knives for sale and I have had NO luck. Any one have a suggest where I might look?

Do you have a Sam's Club? How about the mini blinds.

Sam's Club here does not sell just the knives. I use mini-blinds and the darn squirrels dig them up because they are flimsy. I think the plastic knives would be stronger and can be shoved down deeper into the dirt. I hate having to buy spoons and forks to get just the knives. I need 200 knives, so that is a lot of plastic flatware to purchase if I have to purchase entire sets ....

Do you have a Smart & Final store in your area? I seem to remember that you can buy a box of just plastic knives there -- or maybe Costco? I was really lucky when my husband brought back a box of 1,000 from a yard sale!

If you have any dollar stores, I have gotten a few boxes of just knives at local dollar stores.

Mini blinds have gotten cheaper and flimsier in the past few years. If I was using them, I would search out some older used ones like from Goodwill (do they even have those items there?) ~Jan

You are right Jan! Good idea about Goodwill.

I cut my mini blind tags into three different lengths, 6 inches for the ones I use outside, and the squirrels just love to dig them up and move them around. I have just finished making new ones for all the ones that are missing. I don't think it is because they are flimsy, but I think I will try stapling two together and seeing if that makes a difference. I wonder what attracts squirrels to them in the first place. Maybe I need to spray the labels with animal repellant like some of the plants. I would like to ask if a # 2 pencil is the best to mark on them with, it is the best I have found so far, much better than a permanent maker.

The squirrels seem to react to scent. Try bone meal or cayenne pepper. If they do not like the smell they will stay away. I also have had no problems since I started using milorganite, no rabbits or cats or squirrels. However, dogs like it a lot and they will dig up all your plants and lay all over them and roll around in it. LOL.

I no longer use the mini blinds since I saw a Bluejay steal one. I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

I found just knives at WalMart. Apparently they do have them and they were out and have since restocked their shelves. The only problem (and maybe it is NOT a problem) is that they are clear knives. The more I think about that, the more I might like clear. What do I use to write on them? A fabric paint pen? I know permanent markers fade rather quickly.

I think I would use a black paint pen.
