Beautiful sunshiny day here if it is a little cool! Good to see warm sun again, hope it stays! Put out some petunias & Violas for a little color in my drab, dead yard!

Question---All the big nurseries like Gephart, Rosy, N.C. Farms, ect., are up where its a lot colder than here, right?

Why??--You'd think if they had their bussiness down here--if nothing else, it would be cheaper to operate because of the warmer climate..
I'm sure labor would be cheaper also................

Probably but they are grown to supply the annual market for northern garden also just like marigolds, petunias, etc

There are several wholesale nurseries around.
Sun 'something', which is I'd say almost due West of you over close to Gainsville.
MollyMc can maybe tell us about that.
Then the Huge plug nursery over SE of Tampa (So Happy sells their over production on eBay) and American ??? further south of there.
If I can figure out how to unlock the info from my external hard drive I'll get some addresses for you.
They all sell coleus.
Thumbs up

So Happy is the vendor's name that sells Coleus, Begonias and just about anything else that a big grower south of Tampa/st Pete. over plants. two years ago it was great. Last year not so.
He sells on Ebay and the DG Marketplace. Usually not until April, I think.

Good morning everyone, nice to see all the familiar faces here!

Spring is in the air.
I saw a flock of Cedar Waxwings yesterday. They spent the day in my neighborhood.
Robins were here a couple of weeks ago.
Some plants staging a come back: Vignas, and Passies mostly.
Roses getting ready to make buds.
Nothing else showing any life yet...so we'll see.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Michelle,
Still had a couple robins hanging out over the weekend. Started doing some serious pruning over the weekend. It looks so naked but at least there is new growth budding out on most things. I did lose some EE's to freeze rot but I think for the most part, I faired pretty well. I left orders for my son to get out and start bagging up the trimmings but I'm not expecting much progress. lol.

Now that most chance of frost is over, I need to do some more pruning and don't have a clue.
Help!
Does anyone have any general guidelines?

For me it depends on the individual plant and growth habits and mature size, etc. Some I will trim way back to a foot or so, others about half their mature size. On your bush type plants, it's a good time to get in the middle and look for any branches that are crossing over or rubbing on others and cut them off at the main trunk. There are some, i.e. rangoon creeper vine, that bloom only on new growth so I trim them back pretty drastically to encourage more new growth output.

Hetty,
Your beautiful plumie photos are always welcome here.
Speaking of plummies, I have a white/yellow NOID with a seed pod since last summer. Do you think the seeds are still viable after the freezes we had?

Thanks! Budgie, if the seedpod is still on the plant and firm then the seeds should be ok. I had about ten seedpods abort after our cold spell.

They are still firm and intact. I plan to net them soon in case they split before I can catch them. These are from last summer. Any idea when they will be ready?
