Thank-you, Rita. Vermont is a picture post card.

I am very happy that Long Island where you live, didn't have any power outages or flooding from the high tides. We are not out of the woods yet. We have another storm ( ice storm arriving on Sunday night), warming up to just above freezing on Monday with freezing rain and sleet coming in, and then back down in the deep arctic freeze again on Tuesday. This weather makes me dizzy. Ice storms are the worse! Thumbs down

Alex,
Your view is truly beautiful! Better than any picture post card that I've ever seen.

Y'all stay warm and safe. Cold here, but nothing fell from the sky except maybe about 15 snowflakes a couple of nights ago that landed on my deck. Gone now but left the bitter cold behind.

I live on high ground so flooding is not a problem here for me. As for the power outages, there were some around here but not as many as expected. I am glad mine stayed on as it is cold outside.

You can't even tell were the gardenbeds are located and where the paths are located. And with the wind and drifting some places don't look like that much snow while others look really bad. I am not going to be getting out of my driveway anytime soon as it is really drifted over.

I know you guys way up in Maine and Vermont would just deal with his anount of snow but for us here on Long Island, it is a lot of snow. We don't usually get this much.

When I went to the little hardware store in town yesterday to pick up a pitch fork for Mark, I saw the lady there that sells handmade soaps at the farmers market. She knows that we are new here, and asked how we were surviving winter. I told her that we moved here from Utah, so this is a piece of cake! Everyone in the store was laughing, knowing how mild it is here, compared to there! It doesn't hurt that our house here is 3,000 feet lower in elevation than we were there!

Alex, beautiful pictures! I love Vermont!

Yes, it's an old 10' satellite dish on a 4x4, about 8' high. There's 2 of them in the display garden covered by Clematis tangutica in the summer. They make the garden interesting even in winter.

Very nice idea Char! My mother had one of those round clothes line poles and had not used it in years when she decided to grow a double jasmine on it and wow, it was spectacular! Wish I had a pic. *Blush*

I am so glad everyone is safe and warm and did not loose power. Our winds were very harsh overnight but now things are calm, but still cold @ 25°.

@Natalie, >>>I feel almost guilty saying that it's 43 degrees here! <<< Well you should because I was colder than you at 26° plus we are getting down to 19° tonight with single digit wind chills, even though I don't hear any wind I know the weather man is always right. Susan, when I was downloading the snow pictures this morning, I found 2 pictures of carrots on my camera that I had taken in November. These were from our 'veggie' garden which I share with my wonderful neighbors from Boston(second home owners). I had forgotten we planted the carrots, and was walking 'little Spirit'(my dog) one cold day, and stopped by the spent garden. I saw the green lacy carrot tops peaking over the denuded soil, and started pulling. Here is my reward. Your potatoes, Susan, made me think about my carrots. I tip my hat to you.

Thanks guys.

Never had any success growing carrots until this year. They succeeded this year because I completely ignored them, didn't think about them, and didn't believe they would grow for me with such a short growing season as we have in VT. Lesson learned. Plant and ignore for 6 months, then run pull them out in November.

This variety is called 'Nantes' from Park Seeds.
