Helen, I'm in Tamarac, Mainlands sec 6 for Old folks Smiling I prefer to to call it God's waiting room. Let me see what I grow, First and foremost, Desert Rose from seed, I have a mango tree, orange tree, sweet sop tree, black sapote tree , fig tree (that's not doing well) Avocado tree,White sapote tree, and a star fruit tree. I do have some flowers but so many names I just forget. I'm just now getting interested in bucket gardening and much too late I'm trying corn, bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots and watermelon. I wish I had gotten into it earlier, Oh, and I just planted potatoes using the 100 lb of potatoes in a 4X4 area stacking method, that should be an interesting experiment. It would seem that the only way I get the soil from under my nails is doing dishes, so I guess thats a plus.

Aren't they cute little fat guys!~ I've already put these in the ground, they were getting too big for the pots, they are doing great in the earth and I don't have to worry about knocking them over as I've done so many times

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Considering they don't need much water, and they love sun, I figure what the heck. Some of my seedlings have been in the ground for 9 months now, for me they seem to do better then when I keep them potted, I either water too often or not enough.

It's going to be interesting if we have another terrible winter like last year, some may not survive, but at least I won't be schlepping them in and out of the house. Let me see if spell check let's me get away with schlepping. Hilarious!

You can probably fashion some portable mini greenhouses from pvc pipe & 6 mil plastic to put over several or individual plants. If you don't glue them you can take them apart to store when not needed. I just put up the 18 ft x 20 ft canopy tent that I can wrap with the heavy mil plastic around the legs if needed but I may may some mini greenhouses for the tender stuff in the ground.

I think I have it covered, I bought a few seed trays awhile ago that have clear plastic high domed lids with vents, I made sure to put just enough in an area that I could cover with the dome should I need to. I just hope I don't need too, I HATE the cold. Thumbs down

I've gotten to the point that 99% of what's in my garden is on it's own come cold weather lol. Actually it can be a good thing. I planted many varieties of heliconias and they were starting to take over. A few cold nights and pretty much I salvaged a couple of rhizomes. Just enough to make a nice size pot lol. My new philosphy is I am only willing to drag in less than five pots or throw 4 or 5 blankets on something lol

I had quite a few DR s from seed I got from China and Thailand. After the first few months, I tucked them out into the garden too. Some of them did turn to mush in the cold. ;( I guess more reason to start more loL

Jim, you're not too far away at all! Anyone else in Broward?

Hi....(waving!!!)

I'm in Sunrise, near Commercial and Nob Hill.

What lives, lives.....that's for the up-coming winters. Plus, what dies, does not get replanted!!

That FINAL!!!

I was just reading through some of the post above and notice in one of my own posts that I said"I'm just not getting into bucket gardening" What I meant to say was I'm just NOW getting into bucket gardening. Gee, how one little letter can change a whole thought. Confused

Hi Happy. We re actually neighbors! We'll have to plan
a little get together when it cools off a bit.

I tried to do some weeding today. Nothing too serious,
you know just enough to pull the three footers out lol.
Well, it was intense!!! I found I couldn't even be
outside working for more than ten minutes at a time. Whoooo.
Even the dog won't come out after the first time or two.

Jim, we knew what you meant lol. How is the bucket gardening holding
up in this weather? At least they say we're in for some rain this weekend. 

The buckets are doing great, I'm learning a lot as I go, I better understand the importance of using a LOT of pearlite in containers! I have 3 bell pepper plants in one 5 gal bucket and they are loaded. Home Depot is selling big boy and better boy tomatoes again and I put one of each in containers, also trying to grow heirloom tomatoes from seed, 4th day now but still no sign of growth. I've decided to do morning glory's in a container to better control them next year. You'll love Nancy (Hap when you meet her, easy to talk to and knowledgeable about gardening.
