Does anyone grow Sorrel? My new neighbor gave me a few leaves to try tonight. She grew up in Hungary and has tons of recipe to use it in. She brought home a bag full of leaves from a friend of hers in NY state. Absolutely loved the lemony taste. It was like eating spinach but with a more acidic lemony taste. I need to grow some.....Looking for seeds.
Got my new Italian long eggplants, and a few Banana peppers planted today along with Black Beans, pole beans and a few bush beans. Bought a pack of early squash plants (45 days) and planted them as well. A few of the pea plants are starting to flower. Cucumbers are just starting to sprout under domes outside and the sunflower seeds are all up.
tomorrow I need to sift some compost and make a potting soil mix so I can plant my Thai hot peppers in pots.
My son got my Dad's garden all tilled (it's huge). He's usually my supplier for butternut squash that last's us all winter. This year he started pumpkin seedlings and decided he should plant them. He's got the space and the sun to let them sprawl in amongst his Zucchini and Butternut squash plants. Crossing fingers we have Jack O Lanterns for Halloween.
Allison I found Sorrel in the Well Sweep Herb Farm Catalog. Just might have to make a trip back out there or try and order it.
Allison I'm off Memorial Day and then working the rest of the week. The way things are going I just might take another day off. Still have sick days to use up. I'll let you know.
I bought a Black Pearl Cherry tomato plant cause they had them in a display in front of the Supermarket and I just could not resist! Like I really needed another tomato plant.
I have a lot of cherry types this year. Black cherry, Black Pearl, Sunsugar, Sweet Million, Zebra Cherry and another I forget the name of right now. But have plenty of real size tomatoes also.
And here come the bugs......Found a few Mustard greens eaten to the stem. After much searching I found a few green inch worms. (Squishhhhhhhhh) Something came along and ate half of one Parsley plant. Broccoli leaves are all filled with holes but didn't find whats eating them. The leaf miners have found the swiss chard. Sure hope this is not an indication of a bad growing season. It's been two years in a row with all my greens thriving and no bugs.
Pole and bush beans have all sprouted and so have all the nasturtiums I planted in the garden again this year. Seemed to help tremendously with bug control. Marigolds are also doing well in the garden.
