Hey, my veggie plants that I ordered came today. Tomatoes, 2 peppers and 4 eggplants from Territorial Seed. A little cold yet for them to be outside but I unpacked the box and put the plants outside for the day. Will take them in later.
Lots of veggie plants came today that I had ordered over the winter. My tomato, eggplant and pepper plants from Territorial Seeds and my order of three tomato plants and three eggplants from Burpee. Too cold out to leave the plants outside so they will be coming in at night.
I put my tomatoes in last year on April 28th. Earlier than usual but they where fine. Ground does seem colder this year as we haven't had much of a warmup.
Can't take this weather much more. Last year I had my tomatoes in the ground April 1st covered over with Domes.
I broke down and transplanted my Broccoli in the garden. Had black plastic over the dirt for the past week to warm the soil up. Heavily mulched them with straw and covered them over with my glass domes. (Domes are old Street light covers- they are 1 1/2 feet tall by 2 foot round with an opening in the top.)
Made a batch of sifted compost, perlite and coir and re-potted my tomato seedlings.
It is supposed to warm up by the weekend. But sure feels chilly out there today. I am trying to put the straw over all my tomato beds so that they will be ready to put the seedling in. Too early to put them in anyway but I want to get things all set up and ready.
Well the garden raised beds are done except for one more. Decided we had enough wood to enclose the bed that has my Blackberry in. As I was moving a few bricks out of the way I discovered that the end of the huge cane it grew last year rooted and had already sent up new shoots. I clipped it from the main cane and transplanted it. Looks like now I have two Blackberries. Need the raised bed put in so I can build a trellis for them to grow on.
Got most of the compost that was ready sifted and put into five gallon pails for use as needed.
Picked up some more bone and blood meal this evening as well as a gorgeous Pineapple Sage plant that is already a foot tall and loaded with new sprouts. Love Pineapple Sage in my tea. Just have to find a spot to plant it as I read they can get rather large and attract Hummingbirds.

Nice healthy seedlings. Just planted mine. A couple of weeks ago, I learned I will not have most of the planting space I was expecting to have, (Mostly d/t C0-0P politics) so had to cut back drastically. I may gain some space in the town community garden, depending on how many people join this summer, but I won't know til late may or June. Hard to know b/c the garden is under new direction this year. So that space will be appropriate for only annual flowers, short season veges. I returned $50.00 worth of seeds tho HD last week! Luckily I didn't buy a lot online, though I was very tempted. I planted all the community flower boxes last year, they turned out great.

Sorry about the lack of garden space, Janet....my sister had the same problem at Heritage Circle in Southbury last year......and, the worst part was, the person who took the space never planted anything in it.....grew up to weeds.....what a shame. Some folks bite off more than they can chew.......Love the Martha Washington geranium!

Thanks Marilyn-that will prolly be the case here as well.

I just plant my stuff in my own yard. Had to make room for it somehow by digging up the lawn.
Came home just now from my trip to Home Depot Garden Department and the big nursery that I go too to get all my veggies. I have tomatoes and peppers and eggplants. Lots of tomatoes. Some basil, some zucchini, some cucumber seedlings and some seeds. Also some onion sets. Hurray! Too early to plant this stuff out yet. Will plant my onions and wait on the rest.
Rita was just at Home Depot the other night. They only had the quart sized veggies at $3.98 for each plant. Home Depot said they won't be getting in the six pack veggies for another week. Guess I'm waiting another bit. I do want to check out another garden center close buy. They grow all there own veggies hydroponically and then package them up in soil in six packs. They have huge greenhouses. The plants and veggies sell out quickly so hopefully after my culinary competition on Wednesday I can make a run over to see what they have.
