Ooooh! That looks so good-as do the tomatoes. Now you've got me craving fresh eggplant! Drooling So what will your floral centerpiece be composed of when you serve your eggplant? Hilarious!

I am planning on starting seeds indoors of Bok Choi, Tatsoi, Brocolli and Cauliflower. Those will be planted out early into the garden. Then also want to start tomato seeds.

I want to start basil seeds this year. Don't have any yet so will have to pick some up at a local nursery.

Due to the over abundance of cold & snow and a not so warm unheated sun room, my veggie seedlings of tomatoes, 3 types of peppers, eggplant, four types of basil, cilantro, sprouts, and peas are now living throughout the house (mostly in the bathrooms) under lights, and the occasion fan running. So far so good, tomatoes are getting second leaves and the basil in another week should be ready to graduate out of the k cups and into bigger pots. I also have lettuce, parsley, and swiss chard started in the basement along side all my coleus cuttings I was able to winter over. I'm starting to think that the tomatoes, eggplant and peppers will have to be planted in my 5 gallon pails and stay in containers for the duration of the growing season. Good thing I have tons of pails, thanks to my Dad.

Oh, at least you have a plan and are able to save your seedlings. This weather is too much. I have not started my tomato seeds yet.

My kids have labeled me the recycle plastic lady. Saving k cups , soda bottles or anything I might be able to make into a tower garden for future use. My biggest problem is making sure the kids keep the bathroom doors closed so the kitties don't get in and start digging up my plants. If this snow keeps up I'll be transforming the basement into a garden and learning all about pollinating plants so they produce fruit. Come on Spring and warmer temps. Guess I'm gonna have to buy more supplies to make dirt for indoors. Nothing worse than having bugs inside the house (I'm sure the kitties would love that) when using compost and leaf mulch from outdoors in the house.

If by some miracle it's a snow day for me from work tomorrow, I'm bringing my homemade greenhouse into the basement and getting it ready for my transplanted plants. If nothing else playing with my plants, digging in the dirt keeps me out of trouble.

That sounds about right to me. Six weeks makes it end of April, which is close to plant out time.

I have so many different tomato variety seeds. Not enough room indoors to start them all. So I think I will do two or three seeds of some favorites that I really want to try.

I tried starting celery last year. It was a bust for me so I just bought one of those seedling six packs in the spring at a local nursery.

I liked the Tango celery I was able to find in seedlings. Thought I got lucky on that one. Love to put celery in soups and stews.

You can regrow celery from store bought all winter long. I do it at school. Cut the bottom portion of the celery so you have about 1-2 inches of just the base. Place in water and under lights. It grows like crazy. Change the water frequently. Once the celery regrows about six inches you cut if off and start over again. Occasionally you will get one that just won't regrow and goes mushy. The regrown celery tastes so fresh, love to use it as a garnish on salads as it's extra tender and leafy. I did bring a few rooted regrown celery home for my garden last year and they got huge and I had to keep piling dirt and compost around them so I could blanch the stems.
Never heard of red celery.

It's actually called Redventure (senior moment with the names!), & is sold by Scheeper's....
