Indeed! Red & yellow - my favorite colors!

I'm heading out now to dig dahlias and will probably come in exhausted so sleep will come fast enough. It's just so pathetic that I'm asleep before my one year old grandson is!

Jo Ann.
After college my son moved back in with us. I get up at 4 many mornings. He would be up watching a movie or something during the summer. He was a night owl until he got a job working 10 hrs a day. Now sometimes he beats me to bed!!

I've been reading some good books on the subject lately. Some I'd recommend:

and
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1583334726/

and
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1583334726/

I really find this stuff fascinating. I see family traits: I'm a lark, like my Mother. My son is a night owl, like my husband. Even plants have circadian rhythms, where they do certain things at a given time of day, even if kept in complete darkness or full bright light 24/7. The circadian rhythm is a natural phenomenon. It can supposedly be altered by light therapy and/or chemicals like sleeping pills or melatonin supplements, but I'm not having any success on my own. Interesting stuff.

I feel you Jo Ann. I can take it most of the time, but when my Mother is expecting us at a certain time, and to be dressed a certain way, yada yada, its beyond nerve wracking. Say...like this time of the year.....tonight and tomorrow especially. Of course, my Mother doesnt think a 20/30 year old should be out past 9/10 at night...and Im not kidding.
OK...breathing deeply and wishing everyone a blessed and stress free Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, I hope that you all enjoy this special day with your families.

Here's a nice surprise I found in the basement today. One of my schlums is blooming, and the rest are budding up.

It's so nice to have something to look at that's blooming, so that I have to look at the dead, dreary garden outside.

Good news from our local meteorologist. He said we will not have the prolonged bitter cold of the 2014 winter. Predicting 100 plus inches of snow for the season.

I'm in the "equal chance" category, meaning we have an equal chance of above or below normal temps.

It looks like it's going to be ice storm city for the south east .. below normal temperatures and precipitation. I just bought a 5,500 watt generator to run my greenhouses when the power goes out.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their families!

The discussion about the weather had me curious about what would be happening in the southeast for this winter, and oh my, the weather is going to be a doozie Crying

I searched the web, and just about every article says the same thing, predicting below normal temps with increase risk of snow and ice events for us Sighing!

Guess I'll be keeping the pantry stocked with canned and dry goods, and making sure we keep firewood for when we loose electricity.

The only good outcome of this weather pattern is that plants will be getting plenty of chilling time like my bulbs and peonies, which they need to perform well.

Here's a link that gave a nice synopsis of the expected weather for the US.

We woke up today with a thick fog...slowly dissipating now..but we are expecting some rains by tomorrow and for the succeeding couple of days.

My Wils. Hilda Plumtree 'Purple Wings' continuous to bloom..just one more bud to go:
Thumb of 2014-11-28/tarev/2df447

And the carnivore beside it, sundew, is trying to bloom..I got it with the bloom stalks already 10 days ago, thankfully not aborting. Hope I can catch it in bloom, it seems it will only stay open for a few hours.

And the last of my Hoya shooting star..still holding, but I do see it now starting to throw out the blooms...slowly fading away.

Editing to add updated photo of Wils. Hilda Plumtree 'Purple Wings', all 4 blooms out now, and with the cooler temps..I am hoping it lasts the whole of Dec 2014.
