It was cold and sunny here today, but nice and comfi in the greenhouse. Lots of stuff in bud, but not that much in bloom today. The Dialaelia Mizoguchi 'Princess Kiko' keeps on opening -
Blc Dan O' Neil 'Jubilee' starts opening a few spikes
and here is the crazy Pot. Dick Smith 'Aloha Spirit', picked up at Orchid Show last Thursday.
And as the Laelia anceps slowly fades out, a parting shot. It had 4 good/long spikes and 2 short spikes this year.
Good morning, the mid south is packed in ice, will be worse south of me today. In fact Memphis will come out far better than east and south because we are now on the back end with sleet forecast for the next few hours, it's less than quarter inch now. We may loose power but my building has generator back up power! So I'm not going anywhere. Closed up here the Den kingianum is quite powerful. I'm so glad I bought that one, quite fragrant!
Hope South Carolina survives, Anne in Summerville, SC I hope you got your power back.

Sure hope you had a good time, Jim. My head is aching after a 'way too long meeting with the dam accountant. Hoping you'll cheer me up with some pictures of wonderful new 'chids.
Ursula, all your pics above are just fabulous. I can't get over the crazy floofy Pot named after Dick Smith! Such great colors. I'm always very fond of the orange ones, and the Princess reminds me of Carol's Gerberara Snow Ballet, in shape and colors. I have 3 spikes open on mine, with one new flower looking distinctly peachy! Den Yellow Song 'Canary' still popping, with 2 more spikes to go.

Looking good, Elaine!
And good eye! Both Snow Ballet and Mizoguchi have the same parent - Caulaelia Snowflake. And one of Snowflake's parent is Caularthron bicornutum. I like hybrids with the latter so much that a few years ago I bought a nice mounted Caularthron bicornutum, just to see how this one grows.
My plant has been steadily adding growth and has now a bunch of spikes, I love when that one is in bloom. Soon!
We lucked out. It never got below freezing Wednesday night, so the rain was just that We had some snow mixed with rain Thursday, but because it was above freezing, nothing stuck. I woke up this moring to bright sunlight, the first sunlight I have seen in a week. We finially are supposed to have more typical, seasonal weather for the next ten days, so my spirits are rising! I can finally ship some orchids.

The reason it's so hard to lose weight when you get up in age is because your body and your fat have become good friends.
We had a gorgeous sunny day here and the ice and snow was lowly sliding off the greenhouse all day, always hitting the rain gutter on the way down and flattening it out with a loud klonk! (this rain gutter is routing rainwater into containers in the garage.) Needless to say, we need a new rain gutter, propping it up with a pole isn't going to cut it for long. It seems we need a new one in that spot every 5 years or so!
Anyway - while this was happening, some stuff was ready to pose for pictures.
I bought the Dendrobium findleyanum var. oculatum x sib a year ago, I simply liked the really neat shape of the canes. Nice to see I have the conditions to make it bloom besides adding new growth.
Oerstedella centradenia doesn't look to great plant-wise, I think it objected to have some mealy bugs removed from its budding growths. But we have some blooms.
There is a single, good size bloom (I could wish for higher bloom count, but I am not complaining) on my C. loddigesii 'Aranda B' x 'Sweetheart'. I expect the color to be more pink as the flower matures.
And all the spikes are now open on Blc Dan O'Neil 'Jubilee'

Hope spring gets there soon! We either skipped winter or it will be very late. Two nights in Jan. where I could see frost on the roofs. Now low 50s at night and high 70s during the day....and 1.25" rain for the season.
The Den findleyanum reminds me of my anosmum and the nobile hybrids. They are my favorite Dens. Pretty C. loddigesii cross and that backlit photo of Dan O'Neil is simply gorgeous. Nicely done, Ursula.
I wonder if it is safe to put all of the plant cover blankets back up in the attic. Feb 15 is the average last day of frost here. That will mean no frost or freeze for three years running. We have had no real dry weather either. The grass is green and the lakes are full.
