Thanks!! Smiling
I am glad the Lyonara developed a spike! This one needs the strong sunlight of my Schomburgkia superbiens to produce a sturdy growth over the Summer. Too much shade and it aborts the new growth, here in NJ.
I had bought the Den anceps for the foliage many years ago, it always looks nice I think. The little blooms are a bonus, but I like them too. Surely Jim, yours is in bloom too!

For some reason, digbyana and glauca are somehow Rhyncholaelia, never Brassavola in my brain, but thinking about cucullata, nodosa, cordata - Brassavola it is for those.
adding - talk about renaming orchids: I had bought that teensy plant I just posted as Dipteranthus estradae, it was a couple of years later that I learned it was now Zygostates apiculata. Those two names have nothing in common for anyone to remember? Both names are a mouthful too…

Oh and here is a picture of the cage before it started to warm up and rain…..we will fix it! But I was ready to cry when I looked out of the kitchen window last week!

That's a shame, Ursula. I hope it is fairly easy to fix.

Yes, what a shame, but as you say, fixable. Don't know about Klaus, but my DH is not happy unless he has something to fix.

On the Brassavola vs. Rhyncholaelia discussion, I think your glauca has much wider leaves than most Brassavolas, just for argument's sake. Angel But my digbyana x David Sander - both Rhyns, right? - has the long thin (is it terete? ) leaves like the other Brassies.

I hadn't been out to the shade house in a while and I was looking for Dad today so I wandered outside when it wasn't raining. Dad put all my vandas back in the shade house but he hung them totally different than how I had them so I'm going to have to go in and reorganize. Plus, I had pulled down all my hanging cattleyas (that are in baskets and such) from the lattice walls and set them on the floor so I could cover everyone up with blankets through the winter. So now I need to hang everyone back up that's on a hook and get my shelves a little less crowded. I'm going to have to have a reorganization day soon. Just looking at them all was making me a little OCD.

In good news, I have to take back something I said earlier. I did not kill my Lc. C.G. Roebling 'Sentinel'. I totally thought I did. It definitely had black rot. But when I was assessing things today I saw that I still had one plant left in the quarantine area. It had only had one leaf left, but it was hanging on so I let it be. I was excited to see today that it had another new leaf coming up! And when I looked at the tag, I saw it was Lc. C.G. Roebling 'Sentinel'! It will take it years to bloom again, I'm sure, but at least it's not dead! Hurray!

Elaine, here is the link for the David Sander, it used to be a Brassavola but it is now called a Rhynchovola since the digbyana is a Rhyncholaelia (as you said). Smiling

I don't know about Klaus not being happy if he doesn't have anything to fix? Nahhhhh Hilarious! But he is truly great being the other half of the Orchid team here! Thumbs up We have a new rain gutter, today he replaced the one which got smashed from huge ice chunks falling on it this Winter, sliding from the greenhouse roof. This is the rain gutter which collects the water from the greenhouse roof and routs it into containers. Without this functioning rain gutter I would have to use hard city water on the Orchids, not a good thing as it not only clogs up the stomata on the Orchids but also really gums up the glass.

Melanie, here is to speedy growth on your 'Sentinel'! Smiling Oh and I think reorganizing is usually a good thing, most of the time one discovers things - some new growth, fresh roots, bugs to clean up, spikes - always something to keep us busy?

The top bud seemed to grow while the lower bud went on hold. No growth but not blasting either
Then the "top" bud bloomed. Again, it seemed that the second bud, peeking through on the bottom right, stopped growing while the top one grew and bloomed.

Then it was the lower buds turn Now look. It is so impressive, coming out of the same sheath, let alone the same stem.

Wow, they are just lovely Ted. What an amazing anomaly.

Jim, you sure put on a fabulous show as well. Love 'em all.

Not much new here, and house guests here until Tuesday, so too busy to do much except inspection of orchids. At least my guests appreciate them.

I had a neighbor help me load the huge Cym. Leodogran 'Cradlemont' into the back of my truck and I have three others inside ready to go to the orchid club meeting tomorrow. I'm thinking the Cym should win something. I am taking a two wheel dolly along to get it into the building.

Ursula, I love the orange Ascocentrum (now a Vanda).

Ted, very nice show. I am especially fond of Lc. Lakeview Netrasiri Classtar.

Vanda miniata!! And Ascocentrum miniatum is one of the synonyms given.
I am not playing along with that one! Neither is Neofinetia falcata a Vanda falcata, so there. Rolling my eyes. Smiling

Jim, good luck with your beautiful Cym!! Sounds like monster size!

Beautiful specimens you're all posting! Long time gardener here, but new to orchids, so I've been lurking, or perhaps "learking" is a better term (learning+lurking). I've killed a couple of Dendrobiums and a Cattleya in years past, but hoping I'm a better Orchid parent these days. This long, dreary winter led me to take the plunge back into Orchids; purchased a gorgeous Cymbidium (at a fantastic price from a local grocery store), and a couple of discounted Phals from our local Lowes, as well as one at full price I couldn't resist. Although the first blooms from the 2 discounted plants had already faded and dropped, they have secondary buds forming from the leaf axils. One of them, I nearly passed on, because the leaves had become floppy due to being in an ornamental container with no drainage. Finally I felt so sorry for it, and went ahead and bought it too, and am happy to report it has responded well to some TLC, and the foliage is now turgid.

The first day I saw the Cymbidium, I walked away without it, and came home and did some research to see if I had any chance of keeping it happy. Read that a southeast facing window works well for them, and that 45-55F nights in early winter are key to promoting blooms. As it happens, my foyer has a SE window, and is downright cold in winter, so I saw that as a sign that it was meant to come home with me.

Welcome Neil! I'm sure you will learn something if you hang around this group.

I'm just back from the Tampa Orchid Club where the Cym Leodogran 'Cradlemont' won a blue ribbon for best terrestial, a bigger blue ribbon for judge's choice, best in show, and a pink ribbon for member's choice, best in show. The Dendrobium spectabile won a blue ribbon for best Dendrobium. So I am awash in ribbons. To celebrate, I fell off a step ladder in the OC while rehanging an orchid and broke three pots as I crashed to the brick pavers. I think I will just have bruises on my right side plus a big mess to clean up. Isn't getting old grand? Thumbs down

Jim
