Let me check my notes! Smiling

Got it. I bought it in March 2009 at Longwood Garden at the SEPOS from Andy. But I bought it labeled as Maxillaria juergensii. I posted the Orchid a year or so later in bloom at the Orchid Source forum and was told that this is Max minuta, not juergensii. Comparing, that seems to be correct.

Well done on keeping notes, too! That's a lovely plant for 5 years' growth! You've been rotating it to keep it such a perfect shape, yes?

What's it growing on, or in?

Elaine, it was mounted on a sturdy piece of wood when I bought it and it is still attached to it. I actually have not been rotating it, but it is usually hanging ( during the indoor months) high up fairly close to the glass ceiling. It gets a lot of light in that spot. Outside in Summer I keep not quite that bright, but it still gets very good light in the cage.
Sometimes you just get lucky and not only did you get a good plant, but it also likes your conditions! And this one seems to be bug resistant.
You see the wood better in this sideway picture.

Ok, I promise this is the last series of pictures of Den. Yellow Song 'Canary' as it is finally in full bloom and the first canes are starting to drop flowers.

Here's my Gerberara Snow Ballet still opening flowers, although the first spike is nearly done. This post is a tribute to Carol's generosity, I got both these orchids from her!

This is the purple Phal I rescued. Those buds are swelling nicely, and the foliage was floppy when I brought it home, but now the leaves look perky. Small victories give me hope :-)

This is the white w/ purple throat, with developing secondary buds.

Great growing, Neal! I like to put my blooming 'chids in front of a mirror like that, too. Double the pleasure, right?

May I suggest a remedy for the hard water spotting on the leaves? My orchids get misted with well water which is quite hard. On a recommendation from someone who used to show her orchids, I use a mix of 1/2tsp. mayonnaise with 2 tbsp. tap water, whisk it up, and apply it with a paper towel then once clean, wipe as much off as you can with plain water. The bit of vinegar in the mayo dissolves the hard water spots, and the bit of oil leaves a nice shine on the leaves.

I think lemon juice works too, Elaine. That canary is always welcome on my computer screen too.

Here is the first of multiple blooms on multiple spikes on my Lc. Eva ( C. aurantiaca X L. cinnabarina 'poppy'). It looks like this plant will be covered in bright orange within a week.

Also, the first of 5 blooms on a single spike is open on C. maxima. I love this orchid.

Elaine, thanks so much for that tip! Those spots have been really bugging me, but I was unsure what they would tolerate.

Those are both amazing Jim! How big is the bloom on C. maxima?

Mm, hmm, maxima is great. But I'm a fool for that blazing red/orange color on Lc. Eva. I wonder if she is related to Ursula's Lc. Rojo . . the flower shape is very similar as well as the color.

Absolutely, Elaine! Lc Rojo is Cattleya aurantiaca x Laelia milleri! I just thought the same thing, it looks very much like Rojo. Interesting how they both open at the same time too!

Jim, I love them both! Very nice C. maxima too! Lovey dubby

Neal, promising plant!

Love the 'Canary', Elaine! Lovey dubby And Carol's Gerberara is always easy on the eyes! Lovey dubby

Great pix guys.
That C. maxima is so soft looking, Love it.

Started raining late Thursday night, but stopped by mid morning. Today it was pouring at 5:30 this morning and except for a few short periods, it has been coming down hard. All inside plants are outside. Low 60's for a high to 50 for the next few days. 100% chance today, tomorrow and 30 on Sunday

I'm right with you, Ted. We even got a little hail this morning. I won't be getting any avocados this year, as it WAS in bud. That tree works the same as washing the car...we always get a storm when it's blooming. We need the rain more than I need the avocados though.

I'm just thinking, Carol, you might want to back off that rain dance for a while. Rolling on the floor laughing

Ya think? We really need all we can get! Especially here in Orange County. It's always depressing to watch the news, as it's raining all around us, and here we sit dry. The northern storms follow the coastline until it jogs east, then they continue straight south. If it happens, as it often does, that there is a storm coming up from Mexico at the same time, we get stuck between the to systems, and get nada. I'm just happy that all my rain barrels are now on overflow!

You look like a proud papa, Jim. As you should.

I just edited my last post. Our coastline jogs east, not west. Duh.
