C - The form is attractive and the color is outstanding, I like the subtle washes of the different shades.
M - Good colors again, and the form is happily flirty (to use a girl term Smiling ).
Q - Unusual (to me) coloration, with just right proportions of the light to dark, and I particularly like the warm undertones overall.
Y - I WANT this one! Gosh, drama and theatrics abound.

The colors on these four seem alive and fresh, where some of those similar are just enough off to be feel not bland or dreary, exactly, but more dull, maybe? And the form-color combinations on these four are the most attention-getting for me.
That's my penny and a half.

"Y" did create one of those ooh moments when its first bloom opened, but I have to admit to preferring "O". That's partly because I don't care much for the color orange in general, though.

Have to think about "C". I was going to toss it, but maybe not.

Thanks again.

I'll try to put up some more pictures in a day or two, maybe the "red amoena" group.

Here is what I like to think of as the "red amoena" group, red amoena being in quotes because none of them have truly red falls (although some are pretty close) and some don't quite have white standards. They all give the impression of being red amoenas, though. The first two are siblings, but the rest are all from different crosses.

The picture of this one doesn't do it justice, maybe next year.

The reddest falls of the bunch. I wish it had a little better substance and more ruffles but, other than that, it's striking in the garden

The standards have a bit of yellow, but I just love everything about this one, the form, the color, the branching, and the bud count.

The last one is obviously not red. It is interesting, though. It came from a peach and an orange iris:

and .

I expected a bunch of peach, orange, or possibly pink seedlings from the cross. Didn't see this coming. From 10 feet away, it appears very much to be a pink amoena. Up close, it shows a bit of a lavender influence, especially in the thumbprints at the hafts.

Are you working for red amoenas? I am doing so with standard dwarfs. See my avatar 'Reddy Set'. It is not quite as red as that, but trying.

Nope, I figure plenty of people who know infinitely more than I do about irises are breeding for red. There is no reason for me to join in. Smiling

I really like amoenas and other sorts of bicolors, and "red" ones just sort of pop up in the seedling beds now and then.

I like the first one, Kent. Do the falls relax more than that?

What bothers me about the fourth one (and fifth) is the open standards. I personally just don't like that look. Shrug!

Yes, they eventually relax. I never got a very good picture of it because it's an early bloomer (at least this year) and is sort of in the middle of the seedling bed. I couldn't really get to it until I starting tossing some of the seedlings around it and, by then, it was about done.

It reminds me a lot of Blyth's 'Palace Treasure' but seems to have better growth habits, at least here. Anyway, it gets to stick around for another year. We'll see.
