It's interesting to look at your beautiful seedling photos, Kent. As a newbie, I don't yet have the critical eye that most here do.
Going back to the purple seedlings - I found myself struck by the glints of contrasting color on C. Was it a trick of the
light? Was it my computer screen? Photography plays such a big role in this. It's all an education.
I'd also like to see what the first orange one is like next year.

It's a trick of light. Other than the fact that it's a bitone (standards lighter shade than falls) and the white striations around the beards, the color is fairly uniform across the petals.

That seedling is pretty close to a cherry tree and is in dappled shade at certain times of the day. On sunny days, I try to take pictures of seedlings before sunrise or after sunset because I think that's when you get the truest color in the pictures. But, it's a pretty short window between when it's light enough to take pictures and when the sun comes over the horizon and, with over a 1000 seedlings, it was often a struggle to get every thing done in time. To make a long story short, I often waited to take pictures the seedlings near the cherry tree until last because they would still be somewhat shaded even after the sun came up.

Cloudy days are better for pictures, but I don't think we had any while that seedling was in bloom. Hardly any during the entire bloom season, strangely enough.

I've always loved amoenas and usually end up with some in the seedling beds. Here are some of the better ones (I think):

Like the patterning on the falls
Thumb of 2014-07-22/KentPfeiffer/d9d772

Nice contrast between the standards and the falls, could use more ruffles

Like the patterns on the beard of this one, too. Also the red and white beards

I like the second one best, also looks like the 4th one has a red, white and blue beard!

I would go with #5.

All five are deficient in the standards. Nothing stands out in that area. Maybe cross it to get definition in the veins. As to moving forward, I would keep #3 & #5 to make crosses with and dump the rest.

Last ones for the year, pretty much a random assemblage.

Paul Black might like this one, 36 inches tall, flowers on the small side, amazing branching and bud count. The pollen parent was his 'Lady of the Night' as well
