I do not think you can break dormancy against their will. Just keep an eye on it and as soon as anything starts growing pot it up and give a little water (keep slightly moist). Wait with seriously watering and fertilizing until you are sure it is growing and putting out roots. If it is 'just' a flower it does not need water and does not produce roots. So in that case water will only lead to rot.

Regards.

I agree I even store some potted, totally dry and slightly damp. They seem to behave the same as the one's stored in a box. Be patient Smiling I found this old pic of one ready for a little water.

Another favourite is arisaema tortuosa, flowering in the shade house.A few years ago, I had quite a few varieties, but due to some neglect, they have dwindled down to a small handful. I have wasted so much money on arisaema seed, that I probably could have gone to the Himalayas or China or the US of A and seen them growing in the wild. Apparently, arisaema seed looses its viability very quickly and should be stored moist, or sown immediately.Anyone having success with this group?

That's a really nice dark stemmed clone of a very elegant plant. I had a green stemmed but it didn't survive winter. Lots of money down the tubes here as well. I've also been told that the fresher the seeds the better the germination rate. If possible buying whole berries is supposed to up the odds. I've only germinated A. triphyllum but those were my seeds so they were cleaned and potted up right away.

I visited a friends greenhouse on 3/11. One of his A titaniums has a bud in the crater of it's former stem. Can't wait to see it bloom! The bulb was over 100 pounds when last planted into a bigger pot!

I have several A. konjac clones (at least that is what the label says). Are all of these pure A. konjac or is one a hybrid?

Nice looking plants Ruud. They both look like A.konjac clones to me but some of the hybrids do too Smiling . The one on the right looks similar to Voodoo Lily (Amorphophallus konjac 'Leo Song') Love the orange spadix appendage. It's great that they're blooming together.

To see a large collection of Amorph hybrids these are great resources.

Well Evan, I had 4 blooming almost together with two Sauromatum to increase the 'pleasure'. Unfortunately spring is a little late and it still freezing and the flowers were early this year, so I could not let them bloom outside. Did not make me popular by my housemates.... Hilarious!

Aloha, I'm just catching up on this tread. I've spent too much time focusing on Epiphyllums. Last year I made a comment that I was growing my Sauromatum and Bulbifers under cover. Turns out they were not getting enough water so they are now still in pots but out in the open since last August.
Just going through the pots and throwing away the multiple off spring and repotting the parents. I expect them to start growing again in May or June
If one dies I tend to reuse the soil in pots for something more hardy like Gladioli and bamboo. Now I have Sauromatum all over the place.

We have liftoff! Maybe this year will be the year the konjac blooms! They appeared practically overnight!

I was hoping to be able to get them in the ground before they broke dormancy .. too late I guess - if I dig up and try to relocate them now I might interrupt a bloom cycle or something. Any thoughts on this Evan?

I haven't seen roots on blooming plants. Roots show up when they put up a leaf shoot. I had one late bloomer, May or June, and it was in ground. I realize now that was odd.

Is your pot too heavy to bring into the house where you can enjoy the full experience? Smiling

They stink Evan - and yes the container is way too heavy to move into the house.
