Thanks everyone. I'm guessing it's about 20 years old. It has started to send up some shoots from the rootstock that I try to keep cut back and it loses a few branches each year to storms, but still puts on a show each year. I bought it unnamed, but have seen others that look a lot like it.
Are the shoots it sends up far enough away from the main plant that you could separate them? On that age of plant it would have to be a new tree peony shoot, wouldn't it? Sounds like an easy way to create a new, duplicate plant to me!
I tend to really enjoy the tree peony blossoms with the purple flares, most have ancestor of Joseph Rock. Thanks. It seems I have waited for spring to arrive forever. So happy the garden is finally, FINALLY awakening.
