Did you prune it at all? It looks great. And it's so close to blooming… … ...

I haven't pruned it at all. A couple branches died this winter so, I guess you could say it self-pruned. Lol I am planting it in the ground this fall.

So many beauties. Wish I had room for more. Here is my one and only tree peony.

Beautiful specimen, Susan. With that, you only need one Thumbs up It is an equivalent of at least 4 plants.

Thanks everyone. I'm guessing it's about 20 years old. It has started to send up some shoots from the rootstock that I try to keep cut back and it loses a few branches each year to storms, but still puts on a show each year. I bought it unnamed, but have seen others that look a lot like it.

Are the shoots it sends up far enough away from the main plant that you could separate them? On that age of plant it would have to be a new tree peony shoot, wouldn't it? Sounds like an easy way to create a new, duplicate plant to me!

No, the shoots have different types of leaves and ugly flowers that bloom later than the tree peony.

Even so, it is so delicate and lovely. I had two, one of which died, but I lost track of which it was. Hope it wasn't this one.

Some of my tree peonies were hit hard and have less blossoms than normal, but none the less lovely

I tend to really enjoy the tree peony blossoms with the purple flares, most have ancestor of Joseph Rock. Thanks. It seems I have waited for spring to arrive forever. So happy the garden is finally, FINALLY awakening.
