Absolutely beautiful, Tracey!

Dianne, you might not have lost your peony, lack of water might have killed off the stems and leaves but the roots are probably fine. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it comes back good as new next spring.

Spring Carnival is a beauty.

Liz - that gives me hope. I sure would hate for it to die. It is my Coral Sunset - about 3 years old, and bloomed really well this year.

Mary, I am so sorry for your tree peonies. I heard that mice can cause a lot of damage. Did they eat the peonies? How did they kill them?

Please do post pictures of your itohs and herbaceous peonies. I don’t k now a lot about herbaceous peonies, but I would like to learn more, particularly about the types that do well in cold climates.

Tracey, your Spring Carnival is magnificent. How big does it get? Hurray!

I am finishing the season with Kinkaku (Souvenir de Maxime Cornu). Next week all the flowers will be gone. After that I'll to throw a bag of composted manure on all my tree peonies, and wait for the next season.

Jasmin, the mic e girdled (ate the bark completely around the woody stems) the tree peonies. That will kill them. Also killed a 6' lilac.

The Coral Sunset (third spring last year) I thought I had killed due to over watering last year popped up in the middle of the rhubarb I had transplanted to that spot. Guess I didn't dig it up and the deeper roots weren't harmed. Will never dig up another peony no matter what. I have pictures to post of my fern (Early Scout I think) and Athena which is just about popped. That makes three peonies thus far to bloom. Obviously my season is just starting. Should last til late July.

I saw the tornadoes moving across the mid west. Horrifying.

'Spring Carnival is about 10 years old and is about three feet tall and 2-3 feet wide here in the northern climate. I always get some winter branch kill, which I just trim off every fall. And each spring I get new growth, so it works out.

My Phoenix White in the front yard had some issues this year, thought I had lost it because there was no new growth for the longest time. It looks like I did lose a significant portion of the old wood, will have to do some pruning this year. It finally put out 4 buds a full 3 weeks after the others bloomed and they were actually very pretty. Not dramatic like some of the beautiful blooms you guys posted but quietly pretty....Maybe next year I'll have a few dramatic blooms! Like my hail damaged leaves?????

This was the first time there was any other color to the blooms and the ones in the back yard were completely white. It would be nice if this one had that color every year but I'm sure it's back to basic next year. Makes me a bit more interested in seedlings, though--it's supposed to set seedlings pretty easily.

Mary,

Both my front yard and backyard gardens are small. The little rose garden in the front was planted to keep dogs away. After several years the magnolia planted in the middle of the garden started casting shade to the roses behind the tree, so in September 2013, I planted three TPs behind the magnolia. I worried a bit because of the combination of roses (water!) and TPs (rather dry), but a lady from the Peony Farm convinced me that the spot was perfect for TPs. Fortunately all three newly planted TPs survived the ice-age winter last year and little White Lotus even had a flower.

The winter was horrific. Some members of our garden society lost whole gardens; everything. I thought I lost five roses, but I gave them a chance and waited. Three of them have got new growth, including my Iceberg. It’s always good to wait a bit.

Ten years ago, I was determined to create a rock garden in the clay that I’ve got in the backyard. After several years and dozen of killed alpine plants, I finally gave up. However, I decided to try with herbaceous peonies instead and I bought several “orphans” on sales. Now I have six. Four of them were not labelled, so I’ll ask the forum for a little help to ID the peonies.

I might have one more spot for a TP in the back, perhaps something like Spring Carnival. Again, thank you Mag for posting the picture.

Liz, Phoenix White is beautiful Hurray!

I looked out this morning and a noid that was here when we bought the house is opening. I had dug it up, split it, given pieces away and then had none left for me. Two summers ago my neighbor said I should take her two back as they were doing nothing for her (too much shade I guess). One was the tiniest of roots and is now a small plant about 10" tall, but the other has bloomed. I will post a pic and maybe someone can identify it. Another bought from Lowe's is opening also. I will take pics to day. Interesting the Itohs are so slow to bloom, except for Garden Treasure which should open any day.
