Hi Sandy, welcome.
Arizona has more USDA hardiness zones than (I think) any state but California, so there are lots of climates here. There are locations where the best time to plant iris and daylilies is "never" because it's just too hot and dry. But in slightly cooler locations, it's much the same time as you would in Kansas. My iris supplier sends roots in August. I think mid March or early April might be a reasonable time for daylilies here, although I have had just a little less success planting them in fall when they are on sale.

I was lucky to have a realtor who is a certified AZ master gardener and was able to ask all sorts of questions about gardening before I moved. Happy I did.

Wonderful, Lyle! Where do you plant daylilies there? Do they take shade or full sun? I have some here in NM in full sun, but it's so much hotter in Phoenix.

Growing in Phoenix is not much different than other places where the deer eat the buds, or dry cold winters kill daylilies. I use shade clothe for hybridizing, but also grow in direct sun and get bloom until about mid July. Daylilies start to revive about the end of September, spring bloom starts about mid April, peak around mid May..
Best condition if your soil is not rich (about 40-50 with organic matter) 6 hours sun with afternoon shade.
