You are lucky. Our lots are commercial acres, and the houses are far apart. We have lots of quail, coyote, ground squirrels, and rabbits. Over the years we've also had some snakes. We have tons of birds including large raptors. We even have a flock of colorful but noisy love birds.
I would love to have lovebirds! I do not think we have any in Tucson. I envy your acreage. We have had a variety of snakes get thru our fence including a rattlesnake I came in contact with one very early morning when I was half asleep and watering. It was coiled under a tree head up watching me. I was about 2-3 ft from it when I woke up!!! I am not really afraid of snakes but was a bit surprised. Think it was sluggish just woke up maybe because I was able to slowly walk backwards get into the house and call the fire department who came and removed it.

We had a rattle snake in our pool once. It ended up in the skimmer basket, so I got a shock as I opened it to clean out leaves. It was when our home was still the last house on the desert. My husband managed to get it coiled around a rake and carried it off into the desert again.
They live in holes in the Saguaro cacti. I think the woodpeckers make the holes looking for food, and then other birds use them. I have some photos of them peeking out of their homes, but we have too many computers and too many hard drives and I haven't found the photos.
We are still looking for the saguaro with bird pics.
It was scary having it in the pool. We also occasionally find rabbits who fall in and drown overnight. So sad.
We are getting no rain in NM, but having a few snow flurries right now. I doubt it will add up to anything much.[/quote]
We woke up to 2 inches of snow and 29 degrees! Our forecast was only 10% chance of rain! We are having 23 mph winds, so it blew the snow away. We're on a very windy hill, so at least we never have to shovel the snow. I love to snowshoe when we get enough, but I have to get out early before it blows away.
We were 33 when I woke up this morning!!! Do not know what the official low was. Put Coleus on the patio as well as the Red Leaf Hibiscus rooted cuttings. Think they are OK. The big ones in the yard I only wrapped the bottom halves as they are very tall so not sure how they did.

We are in NM, but bet our AZ place was even colder than you, Linda. We seem to be in a colder area. One year we had 22 about 5 times. I lost a lot of plants then. We were 18 overnight here in NM. Now it's 41 and pretty nice out.
I am Sandy, I live in Kansas and have huge gardens, I am moving to AZ soon, and want to take some of my gardens with me, don't know what is possible, Need tips, when in Spring can I plant my daylilies and Iris?
Hi and ssmithwalley. You did not say which part of Arizona you are moving to but if it is one of the hotter areas you can plant those daylilies now. I grow lots of them in pots and they have done well here in Tucson in filtered light. Iris I cannot help you with. However, pretty sure you can plant the Iris as soon as you arrive, might not get a bloom this year but they should be OK.
