I just discovered that I lost duplicate hostas that I kept on the north side of the house because it is very sheltered from the sun and wind. That is the spot that I have always used for the more fragile plants.

I've been trying to hold out hope but it looks like Purple Maze and Deloris Gould are goners. I just planted them in the Fall. I also lost Cafe Society and a NOID that had both dwindled down to 1 fan. But considering I planted about 50 daylilies in September & October I consider myself lucky not to have lost more. Besides, I've already planted 6 new ones in May! Smiling

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. The same thing that happened with your Angel of Peace is what happened to my (usually hardy) Flore Pleno. I had two big clumps, this year each clump is gracing my garden with one tiny fan. Shrug!

I think I bear a little responsibility for not clearing the tops sooner (I was out of town) and watering too soon after. Live and learn.

Keep us updated. Vampire Bat is one I've been considering but I don't want to waste my money if it isn't very hardy.

VAMPIRE BAT was hybridized in Ohio so it should do well for you

I don't think this particular one was a hardiness problem per se but rather rotted as a result of the spring. The last 10 days of cool damp weather didn't allow anything to dry out and recover. This combined with the short to non-existent fall growing season for new additions didn't help.

If you were going to add VB I would say to be sure you amend and lighten the soil that it goes into for drainage.

Just dug up some iffy plants to see if there was any hope. San Juan Sunset & Siloam Double Classic are officially dead. SDC was newly planted last Fall. I'd had SJS for at least 3 years. Both had survived the winter but were late putting out new growth. Just when they started to grow we had a couple of freeze/thaw cycles they just couldn't take. All the crowns had all died back but I was hoping the roots were still good. Nope, pure mush. I'm really going to miss San Juan Sunset's beautiful red flowers. Crying

On the bright side, I also dug up Purple Maze (a previous goner) and found the root system to be mostly intact. I replanted what was left in a better spot. I'm not holding my breath but it might survive. I'm pretty sure I've done this before and gotten fans to grow.

I have Siloam Double Classic and it has done great coming back for me in Lebanon MO which I think is zone 5. Always a strong grower for me, so I would not be afraid to try that one again. With you in zone 7 that seems strange to lose it? At least it is not a really expensive one. It always bloomed really pretty for me when I had it.

Thanks Frillylily, I probably will try it again. I had it in a large pot with 3 other daylilies & they were all fine. Then again I may just be cursed when it comes to Siloam daylilies. None have ever bloomed for me in NY. I was hoping this would be the year I finally got one (out of four) to bloom. I'll baby the three left this year & if they still don't bloom I might just have to give up on all of them.

My list:
RIP to Tooth Tower
Little Surfer Girl
After Awhile Crocodile
Spocks Ears
Lyle seedling 10031
Dakar.

Everything but the last two are 2+ years old.

I still have some the verdict is still up in the air on.

My Coffee House was planted fall of 2012. It came through its first winter pretty rough, but amazingly it put up one scape. It was on my questionable list this year, looking even worse, but has really come on strong since the weather has been warm this week, I think there are about a half dozen fans now.

Bullfrog Kisses is still alive. Single scape left and hanging in there. Crossing my fingers.

I lost 5 iris, all established bunches. There are also several of them on my "wonder if they will survive" list.
