Got the last of the weeding done during the cooler temps, so now it's time to start cleaning up the "fall uglies"! Trimmed up some low hanging branches yesterday.
When all is said and done, there’s more said than done.

People try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved
So far I've whacked weeds in a few spots in the yard; on hiatus since both batteries are dead, then decided to cut back the rest of the irises and finally yanked the rest of the big tall phlox before coming in for a break. I really wish I could afford to buy me my own cordless weed eater. Using my grandma's little B&D 20v and it lasts maybe 30 min and 2 sides of the house before dying. Yard too big for corded ones and I hate the gas ones. Too loud and too heavy.
Well, today is day 4 of Diverticulitis but I am starting to feel better so I just had to get outside for a while. I started out taking a walk in the veggie raised bed area and pulled a few weeds. After a short rest I pulled some weeds and grass from my front flower bed while DH mowed the lawn. I cut back a few Liatris that was starting to dry up and drop seeds. Then back inside. Didn't want to over do it. Maybe I will be able to get out again tomorrow for a while.
Here are a few pictures of my Summer flowers taken mid August.

Get better Jeanne. It is a terribly painful infection but there are good times again when it is over. I just noticed the Black Flying-foxes are into my Red Silky-Oak flowers. I will try and get pictures of them but they are alert.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.
I finally finished my Iris bed yesterday. It was a lot of work and seem like it took forever. I had swift every wheel Barrel of topsoil. To get the Bermuda grass roots out hopefully I got most of them and I use the rest of last year's fall leaves I didn't have enough to put down on the whole iris bed but fall is right around the corner and should be getting more pretty soon. These pictures are from when I first started to when I finished yesterday.

Are you going to use bone meal?

It took me a couple of hours to straighten out my back after sifting that topsoil. I hope it was worth it. If that Bermuda grass comes out I'm going to go mad I hate that stuff.

In the iris forum I was advised to add bonemeal. I got the soil and compost tilled together and was waiting for the cooler weather to add the bone meal and plant. I was just wondering..

I wasn't planning on doing much more. I will add shredded leaves as I get them and since you mentioned it I might add bonemeal later in the fall. I wish I had some compost when I was doing all that but I figured I would work with what I had on hand.

I planted 25 tulip bulbs called "Canadian Celebration" for the 150 Year birthday celebration coming up next year. They are multicoloured petals, red and white.

I found my new sedum Mr. Goodbud. I killed the other three, thought this was a gonner but here it is.
