Many of my favorite brights such as Primal Scream have already been mentioned.

middendorffii. This one has a low bud count, but makes up for it by multiplying rapidly and sending up lots of scapes. Also often reblooms in the fall. It is my earliest daylily. First bloom this year was May 1 and it was blooming 6 weeks later. Very bright when nothing but the dwarf iris are in bloom for me.

Bill Norris has perfectly formed blooms, high bud count great color and grows well in both full sun and part shade.

Gold Elephant is wonderful if you need a tall background burst of color.

Glorious Autumn has a very high bud count. A little too short for where I have it, so will move it next year. It is my favorite double.

Ceil d'or has a unique color and always lots of blooms.

Orange Vols is the same color as Primal Scream and multiplies well.

Tropical Heat Wave is a stand out with good bud count.

I got a bonus plant from someone called Tyger River, looked like it was having a bad hair day but it was definitely bright!

Better Than Butter. Shorter with big blooms and good bud count. Opens well for one with so many ruffles.

Pastel Pink. I like this one for it's late season blooms. Color is the truest pink of any I grown. In spite of the name, it is a almost hot pink.

I found this thread today and just spent 20 minutes drooling on my tablet. These are all gorgeous!

I don't have many daylilies but this one, Spanish Glow, is a standout. My neighbors stop and ask what it is. They're unaware, as I was until a couple of years ago, of the variety available.

ED, I have wanted that for a long time. The problem is that they are dormant and I was afraid they might not work out here. If I can find a cheap one I will try it anyway!!

Don't know much about dormants, but I see a lot of them I really like. I need to do more research on that, I did notice that Oaks mentions that they don't do well in zone 9 and up. I am sure there are some that need much more cool weather than others, but maybe some would still do well here in zone 8b, and I have recently read that USDA zones are really not designed for regional daylily hardiness indicators.I do have a few dormants or did, I need to check on that.

I totally agree with ED about Persian Ruby which I received as a gift plant it will always be in my garden. I don't have it planted in an ideal location and it still does well it is a true beauty.

You might want to look at the AHS Award of Merit winners and especially the Stout Award winners. "Established in 1950, this award is given to signify that a cultivar is not only distinctive and beautiful, but also performs well over a wide geographic area." Links are here: http://www.daylilies.org/AM201... ; http://www.daylilies.org/stout...

Winners should do well just about anywhere. Winners in your AHS region should certainly do well where you live.

If there is a local daylily club in your area, members can help by letting you know what grows well for them. Joining a local club is a great way to connect with other daylily lovers. You can get lots of useful info that way. Most clubs have invited speakers that come to give presentations and you have the opportunity to buy plants.

I live in Huntsville AL, zone 7a. Very fortunate, it gets cold enough here for most dormants to do well, but does not stay too cold for long so most evergreens like it here too.

Another one that I like is Pinhill Claret Symphony (Lefkovits, 2004)
