Oh yes, It's still a nice flower, regardless. Even after being dug, scaled and moved it still made good height and had 6 flowers. I'm pretty confident it will have at least 10 to 12 flowers next year. I just wish my camera would capture the red a little better. For those that might not be aware of it, the color red is difficult to obtain with Trumpets and Aurelian types by themselves. The easiest way to incorporate red would be to cross with a red Oriental and then back cross to a Trumpet again--but then it would no longer be a Division VI. It would become by definition a Division VIII.

Hi everyone! I have been admiring your beautiful Lily photos! I noticed a lot of you have Royal Sunset, so I was hoping I could get some help in picking out a lily that starts blooming as Royal Sunset is fading. I have a garden that I am trying to stick to coral orangeish lilies but I know once Royal Sunset finishes I won't be able to get that color from lilies, so I would like white. I seem to prefer little to no spots, but I don't mind a hint of colored mid ribs. I also would love a fragrant one. Also want something between 3 and 4 feet. To give an idea of my bloom season here, my Stargazers, Tom Pouce and Bernini lilies are all in full bloom right now. So something that blooms with them and maybe a tiny bit earlier would be perfect! The garden I would like to add the new lilies to has nothing at the moment. I do have a white one that is in bud, sold to me as Expression. Thanks all!

Well I don't know how much knowledge you have on lilies but generally asiatic are the first to bloom followed by trumpets, oriental-trumpets or OT's, and finally the orientals. Asiatics generally don't have much smell. Trumpets and OT(also called Orienpets) have good fragrance. I suggest you look for something in the OT realm. Generally they have fragrant flowers and should bloom between your early bloomers and your orientals.

Thanks, I do have the idea of which lilies bloom when. I have varieties that bloom early season and some up til late august. It is just hard because I need that certain window and I need enough to look good scattered across a 20' long area. I figure I need a minimum of 12, so it would cost me a small fortune* to buy enough to test different varieties out. I was looking at B&D lilies and saw a few candidates. The one that sounded most promising was Siberian.. The problem is cataogs list bloom seasons according to their zones and it is very broad like they list bloom season as July.

*I feel like you have to order how many you need at once because it is hard to find certain varieties from one season to the next. I have some lilies that I would never be able to find now..

Siberia is nice but not a good choice because it will be blooming now with the other oriental lilies.

On the other hand, due to its high bud count when mature Siberia usually outlasts other Oriental lilies I have grown. By this I mean days of bloom from first to last flower. Blooms are held closer to the stem in a columnar formation.

According to B&D their white Oriental lily Ice Dancer (Late July / Early August) blooms a little later than Star Gazer (July). But maybe that is too late for you.

Thanks That's actually what I want! I don't want the Stargazers for the new spot (because of their color) but I want something else (preferably white) that blooms at the same time.
Hurray!

The blooming longer is good, but I would actually prefer something that starts a little earlier than the Stargazers. I had a little lull between the L.A. Lilies and the Stargazers.

Here is an example of why I can't go by B&D Lilies bloom times, it says Royal Sunset blooms in June. http://www.bdlilies.com/l5999.... Which for me blooms about the second week of July... They have Stargazers listed as blooming in August which started blooming for me already the last week of July. So it doesn't seem I can go by their listd bloom times to get that right window I'm looking for. That's why I was hoping someone would know from their own yard what bridges that short week or so gap between the Royal Sunset and the Stargazer. I have others too but Royal Sunset was mentioned a lot. My others that are finished about the same time are Marquee, and Tropical Dream. To be honest I'm not sure which one actually lasts the longest because they are all similar and I have to get my journal with pics out to remember which one is which.

As you can see in this pic on 7/26/14 the lilies petals have all fallen off, and they probably hadn't looked good for a few days already..

I see what you mean by needing something to fill in now. Both Tropical Dream and Royal Sunset finished up for me around the end of June, maybe just a little into July. It would be nice if there was a lily grower in your area that could give some advice.

My Royal Sunset starts blooming about June 21. I checked my photos and it looks like South Pacific started about June 28. It is an LA and about 3" tall. Most of the other whites I have that bloom during that time are taller.

Leaning due to too much shade, to remove a maple tree to afford more sunlight to area.

Meredith, I don't think that this is a good year to assess bloom times. I'm in zone 5b as well and my Stargazers are still a couple weeks away from blooming. All of my lilies were so mixed up this year, I had martagons still blooming mid July at the same time some of my OT's started to bloom! Never had that before. This year my Firebolt Orientals look like they will be the first to bloom where last year they were the last. I agree with Connie that Trumpets and OT's would probably be your best bet in finding something to bridge that gap. In normal years (what's normal these days?) the trumpets and OT's generally overlap the asiatics, LA's and Orientals, at least in my experience they do.

Thanks! I don't have as many as you so I haven't seen a huge difference in bloom times. I noticed it more with my spring bulbs and early blooming perennials. Some things have been a few days to a week off, but I am pretty sure any lilies that typically bloom with Stargazers
or ideally a few days to a week earlier and white will work for me. I love the fragrance so they need that!
I am still leaning towards Siberia, if anyone has any experience with that one I'd love to hear about it. Smiling
