CAM you should post that photo of the Muhly Grass in the Color Echoes thread in the Perennials forum. Bet the folks that follow that thread would love to see it.

Yeah it's about time winter awakens. We had flurries on Saturday, hopefully this Saturday we get real snow accumulations. It looks like a pretty good chance before it warms up and changes to rain.

We're at a balmy 17 degrees, up from 12 overnight !

And they're calling for 60 on Sunday. I'm thinking the plants/bulbs are going to be veeeeeeery confused. Sighing!

Some of us gardeners are already confused Smiling

It's just supposed to be one warm day, then back to cold weather, so hopefully it won't get the plants all excited and thinking that spring is here.

Twitterpated!

Muddy, what do you mean SOME of us are confused?

Sitting here waiting for 'ice pellets' to change to rain and melt the layer of ice on the roads so I can deliver my papers. Hopefully I'll get them out just before my customers feel it is safe enough to walk outside to claim them. Probably not. Sighing! But I won't have crashed in to mail boxes or waited in a ditch for triple A to pull me out! Oh, and I'll have daylight.

I don't worry about the plants, they're much more sensible and take things in stride, As for us silly people...fuggedaboudit!
I think of our Maid on all these frigid mornings. Carriers are the mostly unseen other end of me on the sofa in my PJs with my coffee and Sunday crossword.
Stay safe everybody, people have been driving a bit crazy.
Plant it and they will come.

Our son is getting ready to go somewhere (in the 2012 Hyundai he just bought last night, nicest car he's owned to date) and said there a layer of ice on everything and he needs a scraper. Dare I risk the eye-roll and remind him to watch his, and everybody else's, driving habits especially today. Hey guardian Angel got a little job for you...what are the odds of people being sensible and not risking safety to get those last minute presents right now?
Plant it and they will come.

We had snow!! Crying Then it changed over to freezing rain! Grumbling

It is supposed to warm up and then they said the "sprinkling" of snow would disappear. But there is about 4 inches and my walkway path to the street is a mess and needs shoveling. Bummer!!

There's still an ice coating on many branches here, melting now that we broke 32 F. But cheer up, there are robins on the lawn so spring must be right around the corner.
Plant it and they will come.

Even though we got up to 35 degrees today, everything is still covered with ice. The grass has a nice "crunch" when you walk on it, but stay clear of that driveway! It's a one-way slide down to the street. Sighing!

So, I'm outside enjoying the 60 degree weather and planting the last of my hyacinth. All of the sudden, WHAM! A cold, 15 MPH wind gust comes ripping through. My plastic drop cloth was picked up and carried half way across the neighbor's yard into their lilacs. Blinking

The temp here has dropped almost 10 degrees in 45 minutes. Thumbs down

With the temps forecast to be in the low to mid 20s over the next few nights, I hope the hyacinth survive. I guess I'll know in the spring. Sighing!

The hyacinth bulbs will be underground where temps are less extreme and should be fine.

Not all of them. Quite a few are in pots. I couldn't put them in the ground where I wanted because it's nothing but clay when I got down to about 3". Putting them there would definitely be a death sentence.

The basement is too warm at 63° and while the shed would offer protection from snow, ice and wind, it would probably still be too cold when the temp stays 20° or lower for long periods.

Thoughts?
