All is better now and we are at this time digging out the hundreds of trees we lost to a nasty fungus that has just destroyed the Douglas Fir fields. It has certainly added to my moods but that is what farming is all about and you take the good with the bad. We just happen to have some of both just now.
Spring is here in NJ and the Star Magnolia is in full bloom, and the daffodil field is coming along at last. I am not selling them at the road stand this year but I am selling wholesale to the Farmers Market down the road if they need any. Otherwise, I am just watching them and smelling their beautiful aroma.
The Dogwood is is also beginning to form buds and leaves and this should be a good year if the winter did not kill the early growth. The Holly is still looking really burnt from the wind and cold. It is just too bad when you think how beautiful everything was. It is almost like someone threw bleach on all the poor holly trees. They are a fadded brownish color and no sign of recovering at this time.
That is the update from here just now. Hope to have more time to come back and visit soon. It is crazy here just now. Trying to recover and move forward. I feel sure we will be just fine, it is just so depressing to watch years of work and growth be dug out and thrown away especially when it is in the hundreds of trees.
Bought the new badge. COOL
