Love the pretty little striped Den, Melissa. Forgot to say how much I like the golden Gongora too, Ursula. I think those are my next quest, to find the pretty red one like Jim has (smaug?) and that yellow one would be a real treat.

Yes, I think his is Smaug. Mine is Gongora Pterodactyl.
I really like the gratulabunda too, have to see if it has a scent too. What am I saying, so far I have liked every Gongora!

Melissa, very pretty! I love the Den Kuniko and I can't wait to see blooms on my Eurychone rothschildiana too!

My Gongora armeniaca has begun to turn around. I have it on the wet wall in 3/4 shade and it has three new growths. Maybe it will finally grow. It was given to me as a difficult grower and has proven to be just that.

I find Gongora armeniaca likes to be really flooded daily, with good aeration of course. And prefers warm temps. Your conditions are surely spot-on.

I agree Gongoras in my environment like to be watered often with good drainage.

Beautiful color, Lin.

I un-potted a couple of 30" fiddle leaf ficus this morning to package them up for shipping, and one of those pots was loaded with ants. I think they are what we call "sugar-ants". Anyway, they are small, black and don't sting/bite. I sprinkled a little bit of Orthene on the root-ball and lightly moistened the potting soil. This quickly either chases the ants away or kills them. I have never seen a plant damaged by Orthene.

Yep, it's they are teeny, tiny black ants and they don't bite or sting because I had tons of them crawling all over my hand and arm a few days ago when I was moving plants! I used ground cinnamon which seemed to work ... just sprinkled it on the plants. We did have almost 4" of rain yesterday though which I'm sure washed the cinnamon right off of everything.

Ants on their own are not so bad, but unfortunately Ants bring in Mealies and other goodies and farm them. Not so good.

Very pretty, Lin. Yes, I'd definitely keep a little cinnamon on the plant until the ants give up. It doesn't actually rinse off that quickly, although 4in. of rain probably would do it. If you sprinkle it on the plant when it is wet, the cinnamon sticks to the stems and roots pretty well. It's not only an insect repellent, it's also somewhat fungicidal and antiseptic as well. Great stuff, cinnamon.

Just can't resist posting my Luke Skywalker twins. They just lined themselves up so nicely. Will have new flowers tomorrow.

Tara, don't forget that Ursula's 'full sun' in NJ is not as intense as full sun in FL. My 'full sun' orchids get morning sun through the pool cage screening which reduces the intensity around 20%, I'm told.

Catts especially get sunburn easily if the leaves just get a little bit too hot in the sun. I thought I had this one strategically placed, but one leaf got some sun later in the day and poof!
