Tarev, Hairstreaks do not like to open their wings so kudos to you!
I have to keep this quick and no photos because I'm stealing wi-fi from one of Grandma's neighbors. Seriously people, use passwords! It's a very weak connection. I can only sit on one edge of the couch because if I move to the other end I lose the signal.
In good news, I have seen Monarchs and some of those big Fritillaries while we were driving. We visited some cemeteries today but not a good butterfly day because it's cool since that front moved through. It's supposed to warm up a little each day. I did get more of a variety of butterfly pictures than I expected. The first day I was here I saw what my book seems to think is a Northern Pearly Eye. I'm pretty sure. There were also two kinds of skippers. Today, I got a Gray Hairstreak, Painted Lady, and something that looked like a smaller Duskywing than what I'm used to seeing. I only got one picture of that one, but I think it's good enough for BAMONA to identify for me.
The pawpaws are ripe but I haven't eaten one yet. I did accidentally step on one and it emitted kind of a pineapple smell which is one fruit I've heard it compared to.
My cousin sent me a message that he found an Imperial Moth on a Sycamore tree. Cool!
In the best news, I found three Spicebush Swallowtail caterpillars and one egg on a Sassafras tree. The caterpillars are very small. It wasn't easy to get to the tree because of some dead brush but I could see a leaf shelter so you know me - I had to check it out! One of the cats was just sitting on a leaf and I dropped him somewhere.
But I still have the other two and the egg living in my critter keeper. The cats are very small; I would think they'd want to be done growing about now but I don't know much about butterfly seasons in this area.
Did you guys see where the Monarch migration turned up on radar?
