His big thing is: "Is the seedling distinctive?" If it looks like so many others, then don't introduce it. There are also the questions as to: Form, stature, bud count, and growth habits (vigor). A plus is that it appears to have RE in its DNA, but that too, needs to be looked at.

I really don't know if I will introduce it. I don't know what is involved and I don't know if I want to do and learn what it takes. I am so far out of that league. I would like to name it and document it. I'm having fun. If it turns out to be high quality, would it be bad if I shared it with people and sold the extras on eBay? My gut is telling me that it may turn out to be a really good performer, especially in the South. Maybe I could share at as being "UNINTRODUCED"???? Opinions and comments are very appreciated.

There is a local gentleman here that makes beautiful irises, names and sells them. They are tempting but since they are not registered the name may be used at a later date by another hybridizer for a registered iris. This leaves the non-registered iris you buy as a NoID. In other words you may create an iris and name and sell it and then two years later the big catalogs will put an entirely different iris out there with the same name. Then everyone that has your iris has to drop its name. That is sad.

If I was you, Gerie, I would register the iris.....I don't *think* it's very expensive to do so......and that will "forever" document it. If you choose to "self-introduce", by selling it yourself, on E-Bay...that would work, or ,if a 'commercial vendor" happens to like it, they may wish to introduce for you. The AIS site will steer you in how to register it.

This website lists 'Coronation of David'. They have a lot of older varieties and may have more of your Grandmother's Iris.

Oh Debra ~ We are all glad that you and your house are OK! Considering the effort put into that house, it would have been a shame to have it damaged or decimated. Group hug Group hug Group hug

I'm not on the computer at the moment, so I can't see it.

Has anyone located anymore Bernice Miller irises? I almost got one from Gilbert Wild (Bernice's Legacy), but I didn't because all the others that I wanted were available other places for less money. I did put it on my want list, so maybe in a year or two.
