I used to have goats, and they are browsers, not grazers They eat leaf here, and a bit of grass there, and they move on. To really graze it down close the the roots would require a grazer. Sheep are grazers. But even then they won't eat down to the roots to kill the grass unless they are starving. You would have to build a pen specificaly where the bed was to be, and keep them locked in there before they would eat it down, and trample the grass down to the dirt. That would not be an efficient or humane way to do it. Plus, I'm thinking the darn bermuda rhizomes would survive it anyway. I'm sure glad that stuff doesn't grow up here, lol, the quack grass is bad enough. Now if you had a pen of hogs, they would root out the roots and eat them I'm sure. They don't mind being in a small pen, of course you would have to deal with the smell, and they would need a lot of extra feed to suppliment the grass and roots. Then of course you could have pork chops and bacon all winter! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing But think how good your flowers would grow! Hilarious!

I learned not to make farm animals friends at age five, Lucy. I remember hiding behind a door to cry. Lesson learned.

It's so nice to meet you all. Thanks so much for the information on Grandmother's iris. I've never done this type of online media before and I see that it is very time consuming. I will attempt to close this thread so I will not have to spend so much time sorting through information that doesn't apply to my situation. Please send me a message if you have any of Grandmother's introductions and want to trade. Thank You!

Kent Pfeiffer, I think I usually see pictures from Dave's Garden database by doing a google imge search on the iris name and just clicking on the resulting images.

Gerie,

Do you have a list that you can share of what you have, what you may have, and what you need? Thanks.

Yes, these are all from the ATP database. Some are listed under B. Miller (as Kent Pfeiffer pointed out earlier) and some are listed as Bernice Miller as the hybridizer. So it takes a bit of list making to get them all in one place right now. I love making lists. Hilarious!

Yes, the database is most definitely updated and maintained by members here, and a mighty fine bunch they are! I believe the basic information was collected from reliable sources and fine-tuned here.

Oh, and in case you're interested, I just located a source for "Ruth of Moab" (I'm collecting plants that contain the names of family members, so I went looking) right here:

I don't think I've seen that vendor before. Some nice historics there guys! Too bad they don't let you sort by hybridizer, it would make looking for your grandma's irises easier to buy.

Actually, I bought a few of Grandmother's introductions from Exline in 2011. Unfortunately some of my rhizomes didn't make it. That is one I will have to rebuy. Thanks for the info. Exline was great to work with in 2011.

Sarah's Laughter is listed by a few vendors. I have seen some of the others too. I will print out the lists and note where I see them. Good thing they are all Bible names. I won't miss them - except a few other folks use biblical reference too.
