Tylenol kills dogs. I dunno what it might do to a fox. Tylenol meatballs? But keep all pets inside.

Is the fox threatening your critters? Maybe a shrill whistle would be better, or a high powered squirt gun full of vinegar.

I would like to hope there is a way to deal with the fox without killing it. Can you call local animal control? Perhaps they have the jurisdiction to trap them (even though it sounds like the general public can't). I know the fox is a PITA, but I don't think that gives the right to kill it. Not trying to stir the boat, but as an animal lover, I try to find a harmless way to deal with a "pest." Bugs on the other hand...

@JB

Here's a quote from a website I found online:

"Admittedly, foxes are smelly and can be rather destructive, and not everyone wants them in their lives. They are actually good neighbors overall since they eat mice, rats and bugs that would otherwise infest your area; but some people would prefer they do so somewhere else.

The best way to encourage a fox to move on is to be an active presence wherever you don't want the fox to be. Foxes are curious but wary, and if it seems like you are trying to trap them, they'll move on. The trick is, you can't just go out and make noises once or twice a day, as foxes are clever and will catch on to a routine... as in, "It's safe to live here as long as I'm elsewhere at 11:45 and 4:15."

At random times during the day and evening, walk in the area where the fox is hanging out and work that part of your yard. If you have a dog (or access to a neighbor's dog), walk her around your property at random and let her mark her territory as she will. This will make the fox think there's a dog loose nearby, a sure deterrent if the dog is not adhering to a schedule. If there is a special place where the fox is hanging out, leave a tool or three in that area overnight, then move them the next day. This will make the fox think something is up, and they'll warily move on.

There's no such thing in the States as Fox-Away, a chemical you can spray that will keep foxes from moving in. In England there is a liquid called Renadine which supposedly works to discourage foxes; but you have to use it frequently, and the smell is apparently enough to drive most humans away as well... not much benefit there. (We've recently been told that Renadine is no longer legal in the U.K., so it's not really an option any more.)

Last but not least, you can add a fence around your yard to discourage animals from visiting, but if you leave part of your yard abandoned, a fox may eventually find a way in and make themselves at home. To keep them away, use your property and keep it up, and your unwelcome visitor will find someplace quieter to live."

And here's a link to some information on how to deter them and keep them from being interested in your yard:

I hope this helps.

OFF TOPIC AGAIN....SORRY.

I would never kill him...he is just too beautiful and he is larger than most we have around here. I think he harmed my cat last year. Something was chasing her (she is a tiny little black barn cat and very wise and fast) bit her big time in the butt and I had a terrible time dressing her wounds since I can not touch her. She is feral and very scary. She is even worse now that she smells the fox.. She hides on the top of the filing cabinets we have stored in the loft of the barn. She is so funny. When she eats she keeps looking around to see if anyone or anything is coming. He is after the neighbor's free range chickens that spend time in our fields and yards. They do more damage than the fox. Now that is all of the fox chatter. I promise I will not let anyone harm him.

Planto, that is one cute little Bonnie. Keep those curls coming..

JB,
No need to apologize, it's completely okay to go off-topic.

Thanks! I have been eyeballing this one for a couple weeks now and finally talked myself into picking it up. Hilarious!

Now is a a spider plant or a fox that you went to get? A fox lived on my son's shed roof for a couple years so I am not sure a fence will keep them out.

I don't think Hubby would appreciate me bringing home a fox (or Shelby for that matter). Hilarious! I picked up that curly Spider plant yesterday at Wal-Mart (I did just say I wasn't buying anymore plants, didn't I? Rolling on the floor laughing ). Okay, that's the last one. Whistling

OK....I just ask for a change on the ATP Database or at least an addition....it is really confusing when we keep using Chlorophytum Comosum 'Hawaiian' and 'Golden Glow' and the database is using the what I guess is the European (?)
Chlorophpytum Viridescens ......I have been trying to find out the difference and I even wrote to my contact in the UK to see if he knows if they are the same....anyone know how we can tell if they are. I am 99% sure Hawaiian is a Comosum. HELP!

Great Idea Planto.....how about taking that fox off my hands?

JB I enjoyed all the different spider plants. I will never get the hang of classification again, not like I was in high school botany anyway! Of course that has been a few years! Well maybe more than a few.....

JB,
I'm pretty sure 'Hawaiian' is C. comosum, not another species (I agree with you). I'm pretty sure most of the spider plants we've seen are C. comosum. There's C. laxum, but we know that one doesn't make babies. I think there are a few issues with the database to be honest. 'Marble Queen Pothos' for example, is called Golden Pothos (Epipremnum pinnatum 'Marble Queen'). Well, Golden Pothos is a cultivar name for another 'Pothos.' Hilarious!

Oh no, I think the fox would eat my dog. Hilarious!

Planto, the only reason I found it was on my Plant list it is wrong and I never noticed it until today. I am really alert sometimes. Going to bed and watch TV....

One less neighbor's chicken...fox got a white one in our tree field. Yahoo for the fox....sorry for the chicken. Poo on my neighbor for allowing them to run all over the darn neighborhood. Nite all.

The neighbor is a city dweller who wants to be a farmer. He bought 10 chickens thinking he could get farm land assessment. Dumb jerk...anyhow, 7 of the first 10 were eaten by same fox and neighbor's loose dog. Now one hen hatched 10 eggs and he has 8 pullets and 2 hens left. All have been killed by one thing or another and he could care less. He is an real looser in my opinion. I have nothing nice to say about him except if it was up to me I would find a way to have him arrested for cruelty to animals. I just want those chicken safe and I have done everything, including feed them on his property all last winter because he did not. They are free range and he says there are plenty of things for them to eat. They eat all my dry cat food in the barn daily, and when the cat finishes her dish of wet food they actually wait for her to finish so they can clean the dish. Tell me those chickens are not hungry...I can not say on ATP what I am actually calling him or thinking. Grumbling Grumbling

I don't like how people aren't held to the same standard when it comes to abusing animals as they are when they abuse children. Last year, a girl died after her parent left her in a hot car. The parent was arrested (rightfully so). Same state, a dog died after being left in a hot car and the owner got a ticket. Confused Grumbling

Sorry, that's my rant for the day.
