I would be inclined to leave it alone, just make sure it gets enough water. Moving it will add another level of stress to it. FWIW

Thanks for posting this thread. It has good info and funny too. I like the one best about rolling toward the house Rolling my eyes.

I have also overused nitrogen and had beautiful foliage!

Is there a best time to get your soil tested and how far apart do you need to test?

Thanks

Rob, I snap and cut rhizomes and let 'em dry and plant 'em and they are all happy. Iris take a lot of "pounding". Rolling on the floor laughing

Teresa, anytime is a good time to get your soil tested. However in the fall is when farmers are testing and there will be a long wait for the results. Get quart size bags of soil from different parts of your yard if you have different types of soil or if parts of your yard have been used for crop growing. if your yard is small you may make up a quart bag with samples from all over. I would go ahead now and do it even though the wait for results will be longer than usual. Then you will have the information you need before time to change the pH of your soil. Getting soil tested is very important. If your soil is too low or too high the plants cannot take in the nutrients from your fertilizer no matter how much you give them.

Rob - you have my sympathies. I just found out that the cable company came and took the overhead line off my house (they are going underground with lines now) and the idiot stomped my nursery garden. Broke the fan on Silverado, and one of two small Gypsy Romance. Grumbling They will be getting a bill from me for sure.

Granny, thank you, I plan on getting several beds tested.

Are those PH testers you can buy accurate enough to mess with? I think Arlyn uses one, but not sure.

I've checked mine against the litmus paper test strips, and it seems real close (at least close enough for me !), but I've never had a 'professional" test done. I got an N-P-K, & ph test kit at the garden center(about $18, if I remember right), and test with that once, or maybe twice a year, and use the "electrical" ph tester about every month in the areas I'm trying to amend ( SIBs, blueberries, etc.)

Letting the lab do it is best and probably cheaper. Call your County Extension office to get a price. It is free to small farmers/growers in AR as the big farms are taxed for it. The do it yourself test are age sensitive. If they have been sitting on the shelf too long they can be really off.

Leslie, how infuriating! Have you contacted them yet? You should speak to the worker's supervisor and file a complaint. Angry

I thought I would calm down a bit, then yell at them. (I get a bit heated every time I look out my window at the flat fan). It is so hard to get a real person on the phone with them that I am sure to be short tempered by the time a person answers! I already had a complaint in with them that they dug the underground cable and tore up my garden steps. Because of that they were suppose to notify me before they came to take the lines down. Too bad they don't have brains to follow instructions. Grrr.

Leslie, I used to be a customer services supervisor for PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric). Those employees need to be told the impact of their careless actions. If you have any financial loss take photos and file a claim. You should be reimbursed for the financial part. Although nothing can take care of the aggravation and the possible loss of spring blooms, an apology might help you feel a little better. So sorry you are having to deal with this! Group hug

Thank you Marilyn! I called them about the plants but also because they killed my internet service with the cable changeout. 45 minutes later I have a reimbursement for damage request in, and a tech who is suppose to check all my services coming Tuesday. They then sent me to another cable service person who was able to reset my wireless router so I have internet. That killed the phone service, but then we reset that as well.
The irony in all of this was that they were suppose to call ahead of time so they could get inside and check all my services at the time of switchout, and so I could warm them about the garden - which was completely avoidable by the way. Good heavens! Need a glass of wine now I think!

If I had 3 glasses of wine, you might find me yelling at myself for crushing my iris. Hilarious!
