Serves no purpose, Rob. We've all crushed an Iris or two. Kills ya, doesn't it? Sad

Rob, the drought is expected to improve the wine flavor this year by concentrating the juice in smaller grapes! Scores in the 90's for the last two drought years and 70's for the last wet year. Not much to do with growing irises though unless we could "number score" the effect of less water on them.

Interesting! An upside, even to drought.

OK, here is my stupid thing, not exactly part of growing iris but I am a little ticked off at myself I just had to unload here. nodding

A couple of days ago I did some major fall clean-up, filled up two large green bins, stuffed real tight, rose clippings, perennials clippings, stuff I didn't feel like adding to the compost, etc. I came across a recent gopher chomping damage on a favorite iris so I dug up what was left of the rhizomes and set them on the pathway to move them to another location. I continued with clipping, tossing them in a pile on the pathway too and then raking everything up in a pile to add to the bins. Can you see where this is going?! Glare I took the bins out and went back to replant the iris, only it was no where to be found. Sighing! It's somewhere stuffed into one of two large bins. I could have pulled everything out to find them, but by then I was exhausted, it was almost dark & I didn't even know which bin they could be in or how far down it could be. Now looking at the picture of it, I am sad, what a silly mistake. Oh well, I still have lots of pretty ones.

It can really make us hard on ourselves when we do these things, thats for sure. I used to have that one, but lost it years ago, and never replaced it.

That is sad. Yes, we all do it and it still is sad. You will have to replace that iris. Otherwise every time you see it in someone's garden you will be sad.

Sue, So sorry you lost that one. Sad I have that iris...but it's not planted in the ground yet. When I have enough to share, if you have not already replaced it I would be happy to share. I'll make a note to check next summer. Or...if you want to replace it sooner check this website...it's still available for $5.00 plus shipping: http://www.theirisfan.com/body....

Thanks all for commiserating with me and thank you so much for the offer Marilyn! I planted several new ones this year and still have a few in pots that need to go into the ground yet so maybe I won't miss it too bad. I will try not to look at the images. Green Grin!
