OK Rick, here's a good recipe for the non Cook! One of my favorites, Chicken tarragon.
When you go to the store, buy:
1 cut up raw chicken, (that means it's not cooked yet). One that has been cut up into peaces.
1bottle of French Tarragon flakes, (Unless you want to spring for fresh)
1 bottle of Garlic powder (get a small bottle) I would use fresh garlic and put it through a press, but this works better for the non cook.
1 can of Pam Spray
1 Lb. Real Butter
A pastry brush to brush butter onto the chicken

1 or 2 Bottles of nice dry white wine like Rhine, or Chardonnay, any kind you like. Get a big enough bottle so you have some to drink while it's baking, and also some to enjoy while eating the chicken!!!! Remember a happy cook is a good cook! Hilarious!

Spry a rectangular cake pan (approx 9 1/2 inches X 13 inches) with no stick spray like Pam. You just want a fine coat of spray on the pan, not a lot.

Rinse the cut up chicken with cold water, and pat dry with a paper towel. You want the skin dry so it browns, if it's wet it will steam and not be crispy.

Place the chicken in the pan skin side up, but don't over lap them.

Melt 3 Tablespoons of real butter and brush the chicken with it, any extra, just pour into the pan If that's not enough then melt some more.
(you probably have a micro wave, put the butter into a microwaveable dish, and put it into the microwave on high for no more then 20 seconds. Check it and if it's not completely melted, set it for 5 more seconds until it's melted, don't let it boil)

Sprinkle the chicken with garlic power. Sprinkle it like you would use salt, not too much or it over powers the flavor. If you don't like garlic, just don't use it.

Sprinkle it with either dried or fresh Tarragon. No more then about a 1/4 teaspoon on each piece.

Pour a dry white wine into the pan, do not cover the chicken with the wine, just enough wine to make it cover about half way up the side of the chicken. Pour between the pieces of chicken, not on it or you'll loose the seasoning.

Add salt and pepper to your preference. (I don't use salt, and it's good enough with out it.) Let this sit at room temperature while your oven is warming up.

Make sure the baking rack is in the middle of your oven (you know, that thing under the stove)
Set the oven temp. at 350 degrees.

When your stove lets you know that the temp is 350 degrees, put the pan of chicken into the oven on the middle rack.

Set your timer for one hour and 10 minutes.

Now have a big glass of wine and sit and listen to music, or read a book or what ever.

When your timer lets you know the time is up, (If your not too drunk) take the pan of chicken out of the oven and let it rest for about 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Make sure you use a pot holder, or a heavey towel to take the pan out of the oven, the pan is 350 degrees remember, and you don't want to burn your fingers.

Oh, you could just have one of those squash baking in the oven at the same time, it will take about the same amount of time to cook. And while the chicken is resting, you can melt the butter and brown sugar in the squash.

Try this, and then it's only a short step to Coq au Vin! Even Better! nodding

Before long, you'll have your own cooking show on TV! Rolling on the floor laughing

Let me know how this turns out!

That was an awful lot of cooking instructions for Rick !!

I think he has the right idea about the roasted chicken in the winter sowing container...

Rick, I hope your microwave has buttons for "potato" and "popcorn". Those are the two most important controls, IMO.

>> I hope your microwave has buttons for "potato" and "popcorn".

I've made popcorn 2-3 times, but it's too complicated for everyday use.

Thank you Tom! Those were within my capacity to understand, perhaps even to DO ... and they SOUND simpler than mac-n-cheese. It's a gift to be able to explain simple things to someone who doesn't know them at all. Far easier to explain something complex!

Thanks for the "pot-holder" reminder. For some reason that reminds of a joke about step-by-step instructions for bomb disarming. The only part of the joke I can remember is something like: "Then cut the Red wire ... AFTER cutting the yellow wire". (Those are bad instructions!)

Buy, wash, pat, spray, melt, brush, sprinkle, bake, drink, eat, wash wash wash wash. The first and 9th steps I have down pat.

DON'T cover it when in the oven-thing?

Decades ago, I even made chili, but I had more time and energy then, plus I was highly motivated by being between jobs

Put bag of microwave popcorn in microwave... push "popcorn" button... wait until oven turns off...

That is too complicated??

And apparently we don't want to depend on you in a situation where a bomb is about to go off Whistling

I thought it was like popping popcorn in an oiled pan, where you have to guess by the sound and smell whether the popping is over and it's about to scorch and burn.

Except, with a microwave, who knows what happens when the last trace of water is expelled? I saw the Batman / Halle Barre / Catwoman movie where she blows up a whole building with a microwave. They can't say it in movies if it isn't true, you know!

>> "Slugs on a Plane"?

Great!

"Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" is a Turkey Night classic movie.
And very appropriate to "Slugs on a Plane".

If I recall, the "Killer Tomato" special effect was a guy crawling under a red rug. Victims would scream in fear and pretend to crawl away as fast as they could, but the poor guy under the rug could hardly move at all. The victims had to sit or sprawl long enough for the rug-guy to crawl to them, then surreptitiously flip one corner of the rug over them as if eating them.

How about "Schindler's Plant List" ? Or "Lord of the Fruit Flies" ? There seems to be a lot more potential for a movie (or at least a TV series) than I originally thought Whistling

I would really hate to think of you blowing up half of Washington or something because you tried to make popcorn... maybe you should just buy it in a bag (already popped) at the grocery!

Never unintentionally!

I really love those cans of candy-coated popcorn and cheese-flavored popcorn sold for exorbitant prices around Christmas. But I try to resist. My real downfalls are Fritos and cheese twists. Fritos, cheese twists and pizza. Fritos, cheese twists, pizza and ginger snaps.

I could go on all day.

Have you make that recipe yet? Whistling

Having a cold, it seemed too much work to re-heat a dish my DSO made for me last weekend.

And I DO use my microwave when I'm fairly sure there will be no explosions.

It's all in my head! Sighing! Sighing! Sighing! Rolling on the floor laughing I make a potato bread crust from scratch with olive oil, and fresh basel in the dough. My home canned tomato sauce with more basel and garlic added. Topped with what ever you like.

Good grief! I just heard a loud explosion outside, Set my dogs off. I took a trip outside to see what blew up. Since I live near an airport, I totally expected to see somthing there, but nothing. No large fires in view. Then I went to shut the chickens in since I was out there, and heard a high powered rifle shot coming from a trailer court area East of here. Just now, I heard two more shots fired that sounded like they were from a much smaller gun. No, I don't see any fire works, has me baffled. Shrug!

Mystery solved! One of the neighbor's father died and the funeral was today. He was, among other things a pyro technician, His sons are probably doing a fire works display in his honor, I'm guessing. I didn't see anything at first, some of the first ones must have been just noise makers. Now they are doing the colorful ones. Had me wondering for a while there!

whew, thought maybe there was some nutcase on the loose shooting the place up... Blinking

So, maybe the most important part about the pizza -- how do you cook it? On a stone? What temp? thin crust?

Tomorrow night I'm making some focaccia to go with walleye for supper -- can't wait!! Smiling

I use a very hot oven, about 425 degrees on a regular pizza pan, I have the brick to build an outdoor brick oven, but never seem to get that done. It's a "one of these days" project that never makes it to the top of the list. When I die, I'm going to have them put "he had the supplies" on my grave stone! Hilarious!

LOL, I always say that my gravestone will probably say "She always read the instructions" ... (well, someone has to, right?)

I'm thinking of going with thyme, rosemary and garlic for the focaccia tonight... unless I change my mind between now and then! Big Grin
