Kathy, I think David is telling you he needs more sun. I have him growing on the side of a bottle palm. The palm put out a big leaf which shaded the orchid. The result was no flowers this year for me either. Give it a try. Very nice show pics. I especially like that Paphinia Magestic. How I envy all of those slippers!

Ursula, that Ornithophora radicans is a monster and should be on display at some orchid venue. I give it my blue ribbon of the month right here and now.

The weather is beautiful and I am outside planting some muhly grass. It looks like a big pink cloud floating in the garden.

Thanks guys. I never lost it although it is prone to scale and leaves dropping off in my environment. It has 3 spikes this year. Anywhere else it would have tons more, but it has survived the northeast and blooms periodically and most reliably in fall.

B. David S and his mom, B. cuculata get good sun all year, but mom often blooms alone in spring and fall.

Hi all, some very nice pictures showing up which I have enjoyed on my (tiny, old, slow) tablet while visiting the grandkids in Salt Lake. It did get very cold here and I was expecting to see some very unhappy Vandas out in the cage when I got back last night, but No! They are holding up ok, it seems. Nonetheless the next cold night they are coming in to the bathroom.

Going to the school garden this morning but will get pictures later of my bloomers.

It's good to have you back, Elaine. My Brassavola Little Stars is beginning to explode with flowers. It looks like a good year for evening perfume in the OC.

Thanks, Ursula. The landscape lighting contractors have been working all day and just left. At 6:00 PM my house and garden should light up like some Disney theme park. Only then will I know what it is that I paid for. I'll try to take some pictures. I also had some small lights installed in the OC. I hope it will be worth it.

Ooo, just think your garden will be so much warmer on those cold nights, Jim! Let's see some pictures!

My camera played a trick on me. When I took pictures this morning, and removed the card to download them, instead of just the 5 new pictures, it wanted to download 1746 photos - every one that I've taken in the last (I don't know) months and months. So I need to clean off that disk to get at the new pictures.

Then I went to take some lousy pictures with my phone camera and it won't transfer the images to the computer properly either. I think the computer gremlins have been at work while I was away. I am going to quiz the Leader of the Gremlins, my DH as to what 'improvements' he's done to my system this last week . . . Shrug! Angel

Finally, here are my new blooms on Paph. spicerianum (at least I think that's what Bree said it was) that I got last year as a gift and never expected to see a flower on again.

The Cattleyas are coming!!
The first one is C. Bob Betts ' White Lightning' and it has a lovely scent.

And the also scented plant bought years ago as C. mossiae 'Campo Grande and should bloom in the Spring, not in the Fall. I was told that it surely was a labiata x.

Maybe it's confused because it came from the Southern hemisphere, Ursula? Or maybe it will bloom in the spring too! We're not concerned, it's lovely.

Love the enormous floofy flowers on 'White Lightning' too. Somehow the floof doesn't look quite as ostentatious when it's on a white flower.

Elaine, the folks at OSF were quite adamant that it was labeled incorrectly and were pointing at a C. labiata cross. And you are right, I don't really care what it is called either, it is a good bloomer and has a bunch of spikes in the works.

Jim, I am sure they will!! Smiling

My favorite Spathoglottis that I call 'opal' has been camping in a flower bed for over a month. Here it is bravely putting up more blooms.
