Ursula, that was really great information. I think in the context of your post it should be "sown" but either way is perfectly understandable. So you are sowing in the fall in your climate. It's probably too cold to do that here which is why the germination instructions were crazy including multiple times in and out of the fridge. Which is why I ultimately didn't buy the seed. Also, it's a very early bloomer I think so it might be too cold here when it blooms for you. I was also looking into buying tubers of Mashua which is T. Tuberosum but all the US sources were sold out very quickly and I could not find a source outside the country willing to post them to me. I was looking for any way to get past the seed starting stage, honestly but sadly, the actual plants are much too delicate to ship once they start to grow. Anyway, I am glad to have found you since you also have a love of these plants!

BTW I was just looking for the germination instructions I read previously and found your old post on DG about them! One day I'll have to try again but I guess it would have to be in the fridge or wait for fall!

Thank you, Lisa, for clarifying my sown/sowed issue.

I know about the frustration of not being able to grow someting you would love to have.

BTW, here we grow the equatorean Nasturtiums as annuals - I would have never guessed they are perennials. Sticking tongue out

I guess since they are easily accessible for you then it makes sense to use them as annuals. But it's not easy to find a lot of sources for seeds or tubers here except for the regular type trailing or mounding nasturtium. Which is pretty but I have a vine obsession. Probably because I have no more room to plant anything so I need to go vertical. I bought a bunch of new trellises this year, a garden arch and a white arbor I still need to assemble but I'm excited to grow vines on them!

I moved the pot to my covered patio as it's supposed to be over 90 today and I don't want it to fry since it's in a black pot and was sitting on the blacktop of my driveway. I've read this vine can be very fussy and if it's growth gets interrupted in any way that's it for the season so I'm babying it along with my Meconopsis seedlings!

I'm excited I finally got canary climber to sprout. I put a few seeds in a part sun area that I often forget to water in front of my clematis Rooguchi and one sprouted! I had read somewhere they like it on the dry side so I figured this would be a good place. I've grown regular nasturtium here before with success. I got the seed pack from Select Seeds.

Now I know these grow better directly in the garden rather than trying to start them inside and to use much less water!

It really likes this place! I check it every day as I'm paranoid slugs will eat it as they frequent this area so I'm constantly putting Sluggo around it! It's planted with Rooguchi and a yellow bleeding heart vine I just got. It seems to prefer a lack of water so that's definitely what I was doing wrong before.

No. But it really didn't like being started in pots and I've grown regular nasturtium in this area with success before so I figured I would try here. It's a part sun area I keep mulched since it's furthest from the hose so doesn't get watered as often as other areas of my yard. I generally grow sedums and other water wise plants in this area.

It it makes a fat root you may be able to dig it up in the fall to overwinter it.

Is it a perennial in its zone? I'll have to look that up. Anyway I was super excited to find plants for sale back in April but when they arrived they were all broken right down to the dirt level and promptly died. It was a nursery I've used before that I trusted. They did give me a refund and then I noticed they took the plants off the site as others probably had the same issue. The vines are super delicate. So I'm not sure they would survive being dug up but I definitely will try! Hopefully this one starts to climb soon!
