This thread is long dead but I wanted to post that I finally had success growing this plant here in NY. I sowed a ton of seed and wound up with about 10 vines that are still blooming their faces off even through multiple frosts. They took a long time to get going even though they were planted early enough. To keep the slugs and cabbage white butterflies from decimating the vines I planted them behind regular nasturtium plants which got huge and must have been tastier! Some pics-

Since it's a delicate vine I planted them in front of clematis Rooguchi which was pretty much done blooming before the canary creeper started to. Took me years to finally conquer growing this plant here!

Edit-
These were the seeds I purchased. Germination seems to be erratic with this plant and I literally grabbed a handful of seeds and then pretty much ignored them. They seem to prefer it a bit dry. My soil is also quite acidic but nasturtiums seem to do well in the area I used.

I don't see any seeds as of yet but pollinators are scarce this time of year. There's a bit of frost damage on the vines now but they are still going!

I ordered some Mashua plantlets that will arrive next March so that's next on my list to see if I can keep alive. I've tried to grow other climbing nasturtiums from seed with no luck such as the blue type. Seeds never germinated. Anyone have a good source for seeds? They are not easy to come by.

I think because they like to be ignored, they do better directly sowed in the ground. Every time I tried to germinate them in pots they promptly died. They seem to like being left to their own devices. At least this is what I've come to find by trial and mostly error! Next year I'll try to plant them a bit earlier since they don't seem to mind the fall cool weather.

The seeds are green and very hard to spot. I put little organza bags over the spent flowers, as I was finding that the seeds dropped off the plant, probably due to their weight. @Bandita74 , thank you for the link to your seed source. The seeds I got from Pinetree didn't result in plants with the nicely lobed leaves. The flowers were as expected, so I don't think they were mislabeled or anything. Your photos are beautiful!

I recently read a piece that said most plants in the mustard family (which nasturtiums and canary vine are, I believe) have a germination inhibitor. The advice was to scuff up the seed coat AND soak them. There was conflicting info on the soaking time. One source said 24 hours, and one said 72 hours, changing the water daily. Another suggested adding a little acid to combat that germination inhibitor, such as adding some weak coffee or tea to the soak. I may try this next time on part of them and see if it makes a difference. Of course, there was another article that advised gibberellic acid. I don't know as they're THAT hard to germinate as to justify the cost of GA!

For this batch, I used no pre treatment techniques at all. I just sowed them direct in the ground and let nature do it. Next year I'll try to time the length between sowing and germination. I did sow maybe 3x the amount of plants that actually grew so I would suggest sowing way more than you need.

I've read about acid treatment before but I forget what plant I was researching. I know it's sometimes used to germinate passiflora seeds. When I sowed passiflora edulis seeds earlier this year I soaked them in orange juice beforehand but any acidic juice should work. I managed to get a lot of the seeds to germinate this way but the seeds were also very fresh from fruit I bought in late winter.

I know from growing regular nasturtium that seed collecting can be tricky because they really blend in and when they are ripe they drop off easily. I only grew pink and red ones this year and they barely made any seeds I could find possibly because of the hybrid? I did get some interesting crosses when they made seeds mid summer and I replanted them.

I definitely recommend planting regular nasturtium around the canary creeper. Last year I had a few germinate and grow to about a foot when either slugs or cabbage white butterfly caterpillars ate them! I don't even remember how many different sources of seeds I used before I got these to grow! I think I've been trying at least 5 years!

Here are some pics I just snapped this morning. I've usually ripped out the nasturtium by now but we've had very weird weather lately still in the high 60s even though it gets frosty at night so they are still blooming even with frost damage!
