I sure hope you are right, Lindsey. I think my lifespan has been shortened though. Sighing! Perhaps when I actually get into the space, I can recoup at least some of that lost time. Shrug!

I haven't been really excited until now. Just getting all that glass on and enclosing everything, will make a huge difference. We are still a ways off from full enclosure. Some of the roof still has to be cut back and the guttering done, so the glass panels adjacent to those two roofs will remain off. I am anxious to see what light there is with the glass on.

When I was thinking about getting a greenhouse and all the different options, it was mind boggling. I really wanted something attached to the house ...part of the living area even where meals and adult beverages could be enjoyed.
After seeing all the turmoil of your construction process...I'm glad I took the easy way out! You will be thrilled when it's done!

I had my greenhouse built in 2001, it was started in May.
Florian had the greenhouse itself up within a couple of days and then getting the new heating and cooling system into the house, with ductwork through the garage with registers pulled into the greenhouse, that took forever. Then came the almost useless electrician and then getting the deck built, which required several revisions from the architect and town permits. All of this with plenty of town inspections!
I finally started to move my plants inside on 9/11, but construction was completed in the beginning of September. Due to the horrific attack we had the afternoon off from work.
So this whole construction really stretched out over almost four months, but it sure was worth it. It still looks great and it is super functional.

You are making me feel better, Ursula. Thanks, Lindsey.

This morning I discussed removing an existing 12" eave that overhands the 32' long roof. Plus there is still a 6" gutter that will have to go there as well. I think the glass will look a lot more "finished", more seamless, if we cut that roof/rafters back to the beam so that there is a straight line from the glass to the roof. I don't mind there being a 6" wide gutter, particularly since I see no way around having it at the roof's edge. I am all into the final esthetics of this room. I know I am driving my contractor crazy with my "suggestions". If he had gotten me detailed exterior elevations like I asked (long ago), this all could have been determined some time back. I know why I never got those elevations. This project is being planned day-by-day. Whistling

Whoopee, the first two panels of glass. I had to go over to the MSU campus and help set up our tail-gate tents, so this is all I had time to photograph. Monday should be a "serious" glass-install day. I picked up one of the smallest glass panels. Gosh, that sucker was heavy. Now I know why it takes two men to install each panel.

This is when it begins to get pretty interesting and something I have wondered how it would be done. Yesterday, the major, 32' long roof was removed back to the huge, main beam. If the roof was not removed, there would have been about an 18" overhang and I did not want anything but the gutter to overhand the glass. Now the carpenters have to seal and close in that gap looking into the porch ceiling/attic. That should be accomplished today. The glass man did not do anything yesterday, since so much roof tear-out was going on. I don't know whether he will come today or not.

Kathy and I head for the flooring business today to pick out the tile. I still don't know what to go with since one pair of French doors leads into the great room which has bamboo flooring and the other pair of French doors leads into the kitchen foyer, which has Travertine tile. What do I match with? Whistling Hopefully the flooring folks (one is an interior designer) will be able to help with this conundrum.

Yep, but I was more concerned with esthetic's. I just didn't want to look up and see.........an eave. I have a feeling we are going to have more light than we know what to do with. Sticking tongue out

@Ursula. Can you tell the difference (with the naked eye) between your side glass panels and your top glass panels? I assume that you have the better quality glass on the roof, the same as I am having done.
